People may be about to die or lose their homes and businesses. They're talking about nearly a billion dollars in damages and you're asking about something so incredibly insignificant as a bunch of guys chasing a ball?

Re: ATL: SANDY - Hurricane - Discussion
We live just east of the Turnpike in Lake Worth...about 7 miles from the beach and it has been raining/windy non stop for the past 6 or 7 hours. Sometimes it's just light rain, sometimes really squally. But it's pretty nasty. My Aunt just got to work and she said it was pretty much white out conditions the whole way. She lives in Palm Beach Gardens about 1/2 mile from the beach and works downtown WPB.
I'm surprised to see the local mets still saying that the strongest winds/rain are still to come and then read here that the worst is over. And by looking at the radar, I'd have to agree that the worst seems to be past us. Any thoughts?
ETA- TWC hour by hour forecasts shows the winds getting stronger starting around noon and has squalls listed at the 3pm mark.

There actually has been some relatively recent precedence for a Delmarva landfall from the southeast:

But this is a much different animal from Danielle in 92.
There's no way this will be tropical at landfall.
Oh I am not saying it will...but if the NHC continues to call it a "hurricane", it would be the first time...at least temporarily until they do post-analysis.

WeatherGuesser, I understand that. I have over 30 family members on Long Island and I'm praying for them.
I was just asking a question?

It has definitely slowed down...which was expected. Not sure if it's stationary (the floater is shaking), but it is almost certainly moving less than 10 mph.

I understand...you did realize the severity of the situation in the post, so no worries

i love that on tropicalatlantic.com they call it either "Mission 09 into Sandy" or "Mission 10 into Sandy". It sounds a little risque.

I find it a coincidence that Sandy will hit New England exactly a year after the epic snowstorm of late October 2011. If this verifies, Sandy will be gone (aka retired) after this season.

I guess you didn't read canes04 post carefully enough, WeatherGuesser. He acknowledged the perception of insensitivity in the first part of his post.
I understand your heightened sensitivity based on this storm's potential, but let's give our fellow Storm2K members the benefit of the doubt when they at least acknowledge what they say may be perceived as "insignificant." Thanks.

Re: ATL: SANDY - Hurricane - Discussion
Here in Norfolk/Virginia Beach, I am very surprised by the lack of preps I see at the stores.
We've topped off the tanks, and bought some gas for the generator, and we've made the regular bread/milk/water run (twice now), but the stores are not very busy.
And surprisingly, our local news has not said that much about the storm.
I don't know what to make of that.
