That low is somehow related to Earl...2010?

Yeah....unless 2010's Hurricane Earl became a centuries-long lasting storm similar to Jupiter's Great Red Spot (which is actually an anticyclone), to what exactly are you referring?

I say bravo for Major Bloomberg to do the right thing now. The tune is 360 degrees from yesterday. By the way I saw Jim Cantore in Battery Park very happy with the majors announcement.

A little late for my comfort but thankfully he made it. Latest visible loop appears to indicate the core of the storm is getting better organized and storm is preparing to ramp up again as many models and forecaster predicted.

A little off topic. Is the game between the dolphins and jets on for 1pm? Since it's in e. new jersey I was wondering if there under evacuation.

What Jim Cantore said a few minutes ago speaks volumes about Sandy. " This is the biggest thing I ever seen in my lifetime and as a Met".

Similar on the much smaller Lake Erie. The marine forecast out of NWSFO Cleveland suggest waves as high as 18 feet. It is amazing.

Doesn't he say stuff like that with every big storm? Just an observation not a criticism of Cantore or TWC.

So irresponsible of the NFL to continue home games in NJ and Philly when there is a state of emergency and people trying to evacuate out of lower Manhattan especially. You don't need a big game day traffic jam at the Meadowlands adding to the chaos!!!!

I'm so angry about this.

I agree - but you can bet (pun intended) that the Atlantic City casinos will remain open too - dunces...

P.S. The current VIS shows Sandy having a donut-type center cloud pattern...

I just checked in on the Carnival Cruise ship - the Miracle - that is due to depart NY harbor tonight and sail south towards Florida right into the thick of this storm.

It's still due to sail at 6 p.m. tonight, heading for Port Canaveral.
http://www.carnival.com/core/faq.aspx#q-1284687

Can anyone tell me what kind of waves a cruise ship like that can withstand. Is there significant danger this ship could be hit by a rogue wave and capsize?

I think the ship is going to need to live up to its name and need a miracle to make it safely without any serious incident to Florida.

Why didn't they send this ship out to sea on Friday or Saturday. This storm has been WELL FORECAST!!! Again, I'm ANGRY, but perhaps I'm ill informed about the danger?

That is amazing. I love down off the coast of Florida where you can see the outflow moving west and the clouds underneath moving east.
