Strange wondering how this combo storm behaves (and goes) once landfalls.

I'm not sure what you're getting at because earlier forecasts (since yesterday at least) were calling for Sandy to hit extreme Southern NJ (a little north of Cape May). In terms of location, forget how fast Sandy is moving but focus on her direction...which is still NW according to the latest advisory. Unless she decides to head more WNW things are looking bad for NYC. And OzonePete who has been pretty spot-on had this to say not long ago

Since Friday TWC showed model run after run with the isobar center just south of NYC at landfall (as late as yesterday evening), so for the NHC to mention coastal DE as a landfall is much further south than originally thought...

For certain none of the TWC graphics showed a DE landfall, so a somewhat different outcome as least as the landfall is concerned...

P.S. Put it this way - TWC did not deploy a reporter to coastal DE...

Probably not good news, eh?

horrible....the glass turns into projectiles which breaks other windows and the dominoe effect takes place. Seen it in DT Houston...this is just going to get worse...

The crane fall should be spectacular if it happens.

Can anyone link these weather stations in NYC that are reporting 50 mph sustained? The highest I've found is 28 mph.

Just like we have to link a source for pictures and other reports, I think sustained wind reports need to be verified and shown with evidence. It's too easy for the media and local disaster junkies to exaggerate and make up numbers to please the public's insatiable appetite for destruction.

Actually, TWC has had reporters at Rehoboth Beach DE since yesterday.

The hurricane force winds are mostly located to the SW of the center.

Live CNN coverage shows it blowing pretty good in Atlantic City right now with wind driven rain.

Eye is not going in over Delaware. The NHC is covering its bases because the models have been showing a more westward motion as it gets near the coast or after landfall. However, you can see from the visible and RGB satellites that the flow around it is still NW. The eye will landfall around 6PM just north of Atalntic City. The winds are gusting over hgurricane force over 100 miles from the center. Winds will be southeast at 8PM over NYC gusting to hurricane force and will push the water right up into NY Harbor at that time which is high tide.

Thanks, Sanibel - good to read a post from a long-time poster here in the local area (well, Lee County - lol)...

P.S. I forgot that TWC had a reporter in DE - whomever that is is going to get their quarters worth of weather, that's for sure (so much hyper on TV that it's hard to keep track)...

The highest I can find is Brooklyn with sustained at 28 mph. The highest gust I can find is Jersey City with a 44 mph gust. Can you link or give a screen shot of these supposed widespread sustained 50 mph winds in NYC?

CENTER OF SANDY IS EXPECTED TO REACH THE COAST OF EXTREME SOUTHERN
NEW JERSEY OR CENTRAL DELAWARE WITHIN THE NEXT 3 TO 5 HOURS.

People are walking thru Times Square not knowing the danger that broken glass from a tall building may fall. Although there are much less people than a normal day when that part of NYC is jammed with pedestrians and cars.
