We have what looks like a hurricane about to make landfall yet there have never been any hurricane watches or warnings issued for the areas about to be affected ..........ok what am I missing here? Just my opinion.

Conditions here on Southcoast of Ma have deteriorated considerably.....strong winds (of what magnitude/velocity I don't have a clue)...skies black as pitch and of and on squalls of heavy rain. Parts Of Fall River ( a bridge away) and communities of Dartmouth & Westport MA now under evacuation due to tidal surge,
We lost power roughly three hours ago and expect to be without it for quite a period of time.....now running off gennie.
Husband's and my personal observations are that this is much worse than Irene and similar to what we experienced while living directly on the water during the Perfect Storm.
We are hunkered down with all the comforts of home (or close to it...) with premade beef stroganoff heating up in the crockpot.

My prayers and thoughts to all those in the path of this horrific storm....please remain safe.

Gretchen

There's a wicked band on the SW side of the eye that's about to hit Cape May if it isn't already.

Just got a message on facebook from grandson Jonathan Brookins who more or less got stranded in NYC where he is training for his next MMA fight in early December. Will post his observations as they come in.

It appears they inadvertently pasted the 11 a.m. discussion into the 5 p.m. one. I suspect they'll correct it soon enough.

The only thing on BBC news is this storm, and loads of webcams showing enormous waves in Ocean City, Maryland and a video of the crane that fell over

6.5' over "typical" water level.

I think that's tide plus surge. Here's the CO-OPS water level monitoring site: http://tidesonline.nos.noaa.gov/geographic.html Click on NY and select The Battery.

I think he is talking about above the predicted tide rather than MSL. That would put it at the 8.18 or close to the level the battery water sensor is showing. That would explain the difference. anyone?
