Not sure. The total level is supposed to be a record but Cantore says it's not as high as it was during Irene.

I can understand Cantore being a little rattled. :)

Maybe he is referring to the tide (which is closer to 8 ft now) rather than the 12+ feet of surge...?

Just a question is the Statue of Liberty able to withstand these winds?

Been watching Cantore for like 7-8 minutes and the water is clearly higher up his calves than it was when he first came on, lol. He needs to move, quickly.

tolakram, looking at the recon reports, I wonder whether the fact that the lowest pressure has jogged NNW along the coast and the larger gyro seems to be tightening and becoming dominat has meant that the surge is actually stronger than may have been expected at this stage.

That's 1.94 feet in an hour. Nearly 2 feet, in an hour. Incredible.

Standing is saltwater talking about power flashes. Maybe it's time to go Jim :)

And the winds are well removed from the center, which I think is continuing to take people by surprise.

Sandy made landfall in Sea Isle City. I still have power but the wind is REALLY whipping up now. It flickered a few moments ago. Unreal footage of the NJ shore towns, the Atlantic City boardwalk being torn up.

This is going to break 13 feet.

That's nearly a foot in 20mins, or 3' per hour.

It's rising at the rate of 1/3 to 1/2 foot every ten minutes lately. That's 2-3 feet per hour, yep. Going over 14, I'd say...
