Not forgetting that despite the abundance of water, the NYFD can only use freshwater supplies for it's services. This means having to use water sparingly, and unfortunately any fires (as a result of the storm) will be decided on priority rather than the usual operational practises.

Crazy thing is the tides are going down but surge is still piling in. If high tide had been in another hour or so, we could have been looking at an additional couple of feet on what we have already....

But it's still rising at KingsPoint and that funnels down the East River, I think. Or the Hudson. Sheesh. One of those.

Alright, now we turn our attention to Kings Point:

Tide is rising.

Doesn't peak for 3 hours.

Worse than Battery park.

14 feet right now.

The NHC will NOT report on the "post trypical cyclone" f/k/a HURRICANE SANDY past 11:00 pm; the hydrometeorology reports begin at 5:00 am tomorrow. Where, pray tell, are citizens to obtain updates other than media outlets during the gap? The terminology police will not assist public awareness of the danger.

Thank you, _____ ____ also used the term "dodged a bullet" about Katrina. I see no one is saying that about NYC; I read a few writing, and heard a few saying*, "its only a category 1 storm, how bad can it get?" & "...we go through these every couple of years!" We are now witnessing how bad it can get when an area DOESN'T "get them every year" and the storms are not the norm.

*Individuals I know, here in Florida.

Norcoss just had a good conversation on that point on TWC. Worry is with winds still out of the south and strong water levels will not drop and will be an issue again at the next high tide.

Also, live now on TWC, a report of 3 feet of water on the floor of the NYSE.
