Texas Snowman wrote:Just a few hours into this and already a dozen or so deaths are known and at least two are missing (swimmer and ship captain). Reports of numerous high water rescues and mayday calls for rescue. Who knows how many are dead and dying from Sandy.

Four million customers w/out power and many hours of high winds still to go.

Massive storm surge flooding breaking all-time records in NYC and other coastal areas.

Wind speeds measured from 70-90 mph in many locations.

A landfalling barometric pressure of 940 mb.

And all of this from a "Cat 1."

I have a feeling Sandy will wind up ranking up there with Katrina, Andrew, Ike, etc. as one of the worst 'canes to ever hit the U.S.

This was a true cat 1, none of that 75 MPH winds in a tiny area in the NE quadrant type of stuff. Lots of legit cat 1 winds in all directions many miles from the center.

That's interesting because CNN just stated that they DIDN'T report this unlike TWC.

I think we're ok now in Brooklyn as far as the power goes. Hang in!

Would CNN let that poor guy in Atlantic City get out of the flooded street already?

CNN's Chad Meyers did report it. I was watching it live. He said he received from the NWS in New York City.

Report: Coney Island Hospital on fire (source / Scanner)
Also FDNY can't reach it because it's surrounded by storm surge.

Lady TWC is airing at the Battery "By the time we broke our trucks down and left, it was too late. We stayed too long." No way, really?! Weren't you in a mandatory evacuation zone? Gah.

TWC has a reporter standing right outside the NYSE, there's no water at all. I don't know where these reports are coming from.

Per Mayor of Hoboken on CNN - basically she is saying that this is a very dangerous situation. Four live wires in flood areas and can't get them fixed. People in lower level buildings but Hudson River has breached from north and south end.

So correct me if I'm wrong...it sounds like the east river and Hudson have converged around Broadway in lower manhattan? Is the whole tip under water below TriBeCa?

Not true I've been watching them all night and they did say that. They were talking to their reporter in Battery Park and she was commenting about how much time she spent on the stock exchange floor in the past and that's it's basically wood floors smh!

Same site reporting 3-4 feet of flowing water on streets hampering fire crews from getting there.
