It's not often Porta tees up the football for himself. Think it'll still blow over just before he kicks it?

Hopefully the Rio Grande Valley can get another Christmas Miracle of 2004!! Its okay if it does not happen on Christmas Eve as long as we get a little snow this winter!

Since it is related to winter outlook, I'm going to put some October verification maps on this thread. Using 2 forecasts (weather channel is for Wxman57) we'll see how they fared for the month of October.
NOAA/Weather Channel

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Temps relative to average for the month (31st isn't out yet but in the grand scheme it won't make too much of a difference)

As you can see, the forecast for warmth on the east coast and parts of mountain west did verify. But the central Conus where it was forecasted to be warmest, was total opposite. November is once again forecasted to be quite warm in the same areas. We'll check back in a month to see if that will happen. Same for DJF period.

If anyone knows pro-met Allan Huffman, here's his Winter Outlook:
http://www.examiner.com/slideshow/winte ... ges-part-1
http://www.examiner.com/slideshow/winte ... ges-part-2
To summarize, it appears he's forecasting near normal temps for Texas and that February being the best chance for widespread cold. He bases his forecast on a -AO/-NAO, but says the forecast will bust if this doesn't not occur and would result in temps being warm this Winter over most of the US.

Re: Texas Winter 2012-2013
I dont want to spoil the cold and snowy party for Texas but CPC came out today with a bleak outlook that for sure will change that and make our friend that likes to ride bikes happy. See the CPC outlook on the ENSO thread at Talking Tropics forum.

If there is no enso signal (Nino or Nina) we are treading uncharted waters. There is no standout cold PDO neutral year (in fact there really isn't a warm neutral year in the cold PDO that I can find) that has behaved like this one following double Nina. 2003/2004 is the only stick out but it was during the warm PDO and following a stout Nino.

Anybody see the 18Z NAM? Hope is not lost for parts of Oklahoma Sunday night into Monday in terms of the possibility for winter precipitation.

18Z NAM does indicate possible snow extreme NE OK and SE KS. Hopefully, that's as close as it gets to Texas this winter. I do know how to dress warmly for bike rides, too, but it's no fun riding in tights, thermal underwear/jersey, full-finger gloves, hat and neoprene face mask. Even then, my eyeballs get cold.

I'm hoping I see some of the white stuff at OU! I'm a runner and I love running in the cold weather; you should give riding in the cold a try, you may like it

That may be about all we get with no El Nino. Since it appears we are going to be in La Nada(Neutral) for the Winter I am expecting more cold than we had last year, but not what I had hoped for.

Why don't you just move on down to the Valley already?
