Veggie and fruit storage question

Wow...my first post in the Garden forum. I don't have a green thumb...and my question will prove it, although it's not a true gardening question. :D

I moved into my current apartment in March. The refrigerator is a basic 18 cu. ft. model with the freezer on top and the fridge on the bottom. The problem is that there are no drawers. Three shelves in the upper part of the fridge, shelves in the door, and a wire rack basket along the full length of the bottom. It makes it easy to pull everything out of the bottom at once to wipe up drips, but it doesn't keep everything fresh for long.

I know tomatoes, bananas, potatoes, onions, and garlic can and should stay out of the fridge (especially the first two). So those aren't a problem as long as I don't let the tomatoes go for too long (I'm single, so unless I'm cooking for friends, I'm the only one to blame when the stuff goes bad). But how about my carrots, celery, lettuce, peppers, and so forth? What's the best way to store those and keep them fresh and crispy longer, since I don't have a drawer? Even though I keep them in their bags, I find they get pretty rubbery, wilted, or mushy if I don't use them fast enough

Anybody have any good tips? Thanks!

I am not a Tupperwear salesperson but I'm going to sound like one. I don't cook a lot and used to have the same problem. I took to buying the small already cut up carrots and celery that were twice as expensive as the not cut up. But then I went to a Tupperwear party. I bought some containers that are supposed to keep stuff fresh for a year and so far I haven't been disappointed. I haven't kept anything for a year, but my carrots and celery and onions have been fresh after several weeks. You could buy one and try it. They stack nicely.

You can also buy some green storage bags specially made for vegetables they keep vegetables of any kind longer and crisper than if just left in the fridge or in an ordinary bag they dont cost much and they make vegies and fruit last weeks at times.

I keep bananas longer in the warmest part of the fridge now if the fridge gets too cold the skin goes black but dont let that fool you because the banana inside is fine and firm and not rotten or off, its the best way to keep them longer. That i know of at least.
