:uarrow: Is amazing how that part of the coast of FL where you live gets so cold, cold air drainage loves to hug your coast when light northerly winds are present.
This infared sat pix shows it clearly, the lighter the coler the colder the ground temps, notice how the colors get darker (warmer) in the FL Peninsula the closer you get to the gulf stream and large cities. It is also warmer in areas surrounded by lakes like parts of central FL from Leesburg to Winter Haven up to the Orlando area.

Cool pic and shows the temp difference real well. The county to our north, Hernando, REALLY gets cold! We tend to get away with just a bit here plant wise, but Brooksville/Webster has already seen freezing temps at 32F. It is 47.7 F right now, much colder than last night, but the dewpoints are higher. I'm sure this winter will see a substantial amount of cold.

Now that meteorological winter starts today, the weather is very blase. 54F at wakeup, expecting 78F but the usual seabreeze will probably keep my coastal location chillier. By 2pm if the breeze kicks, we will not get above 72F. Not a drop of rain. TOTAL 4/10" since Oct 2nd, that is less than half inch in two months, and it is looking very brown around here. My yard is showing the stress of the lack of rain. We need something real fast, yet the next week is calling for 70's and dry. :double:

Yeah, very dry conditions continue. Grass is brown in non-irrigated areas because of the dry and sunny days not because of any little cold wx we have had in the Orlando area so far.

Looks like Old Man Winter will not be paying us any visits at least for the next week as the polar jet stream continues to stay far to the north, keeping the arctic air bottled up into Canada. This will keep much of the USA unseasonably warm for early December for this week.

High Pressure ridge off the Mid Atlantic coast will build south the next few days. Generally a mild, to warm pattern set-up and dry conditions will persist across the peninsula this week. The exception areas will be along portions of the NE Florida coast as a persistant coastal trough as spawned some light rain showers to come onshore since yesterday. There may be a chance for more of these light rain showers along the coast today, but as the ridge shifts south on Monday, subsidence should commence and dry conditions will return in Jax area through the course of the week.

Enjoy this reprieve from winter folks while we have it. It is only a matter of time for a significant pattern change to occur for all that bitter cold air to eventually come south from Canada into the United States.

Warm, dry, beautiful but we need RAIN badly. One rain in two months. I cannot see any cold air for a few weeks based on long range (trends only). The fronts that will come thru the north are not strong. I hope it doesn't set us up for a punch of freezing air. I am enjoying this pleasant string immensely. :sun:

Forget late fall and winter...tropical warmth is returning to Florida...highs in the 80s and lows in the low 70s in my neck of the woods for the next week or so

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
250 PM EST FRI DEC 7 2012

...WARMER WITH INCREASING HUMIDITY INTO MUCH OF NEXT WEEK...

.DISCUSSION...IT`S BEEN WARM ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA, BUT IT`S ABOUT
TO GET EVEN WARMER ALONG WITH A NOTICEABLE INCREASE IN HUMIDITY,
ESPECIALLY IN THE MON-WED TIMEFRAME WHEN DEWPOINTS WILL AVERAGE
70 ACROSS THE AREA. TEMPS WILL WARM WITH HIGHS REACHING INTO THE
LOWER TO MID 80S. THIS TROPICAL WARMTH IS A RESULT OF AN UPPER
LEVEL TROUGH WHICH WILL DIVE OUT OF THE CENTRAL STATES EARLY NEXT
WEEK WITH A MOIST SW WIND FLOW DEVELOPING AHEAD OF IT ACROSS
FLORIDA.

The good news for next week is that central FL might have the best chance of rain that we have seen in a fairly long time, SW flow in the mid and upper levels might keep chances of rain through the week as the frontal boundary lingers through central FL through at least Thursday.

Today was a humid, warm day. After another morning shrouded in fog, it burned off by 11am, then it was partly sunny rising into the lower 80's. Nice and mild now, about 67F and clear although dewpoint is in the mid 60's so fog should form. That chance of rain is promising and WELL NEEDED! Come rain, come!

Thought it felt almost steamy out this evening...dewpoints across southeast florida have been climbing throught the high 60s during the day are now in the low 70s....up to summer-like dewpoint of 73 in Pompano Beach at 8pm. A/C's are humming along with holiday lights.

Latest dewpoint readings:

In my opinion this weather is as good as it gets in Florida in December. I am loving wearing shorts! Plus, we're deep enough in the cold season now that everyday like this is one potential less day of stupid cold, frigid winds and destructive freezes. I'm sure those with agricultural interests would enjoy another break this year considering the two winters that preceded last year.

Yes, I have two shadehouses and one greenhouse, and sell during the summer (I teach high school) and when customers make appts. This has been a bounty to enjoy! No frost cloth. No heaters. None in the near future. I agree, one less day of possible cold for each day. The next front will move through but it will only knock us to normal, then warming up some after. Keeping fingers crossed!

the pinellas beaches were socked in with sea fog all day and with sunset the cooler landmass has allowed that fog to lurch inland...about 1/4 mile visibility here right now and we've been fogged in long enough that the trees are dripping...very cool.

a cluster of pretty nasty storms is now about 60 miles southwest of the pinellas county beaches moving northeast. lots of lightning and very heavy rain could be moving ashore somewhere in the tampa bay area in the next couple of hours should this hold together.

Slight risk of severe weather for the central Florida peninsula for Tuesday. There have been numerous severe weather warnings, with more than a few tornado warnings, posted today.

DAY 2 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1109 AM CST MON DEC 10 2012

VALID 111200Z - 121200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE FL
PENINSULA...

...FL...

WEAK SFC BOUNDARY IS EXPECTED TO SAG SLOWLY SWD ACROSS NRN FL EARLY
IN THE PERIOD PRIMARILY DUE TO WEAK/NEGLIGIBLE LARGE SCALE FORCING
WELL AHEAD OF SHORT WAVE TROUGH THAT WILL DIG INTO THE LOWER MS
VALLEY LATE IN THE PERIOD. WELL AHEAD OF THIS FEATURE...ACROSS THE
FL PENINSULA...BOUNDARY LAYER MOISTURE SHOULD BE WELL ENTRENCHED
OVER THE WARM SECTOR WITH SFC DEW POINTS EXPECTED TO HOLD IN THE
UPPER 60S TO LOWER 70S. FOR THIS REASON THERMODYNAMIC PROFILES
SHOULD EXHIBIT MODEST INSTABILITY...SBCAPE ON THE ORDER OF 1500
J/KG...BY MID DAY AS HEATING ENHANCES BUOYANCY OF SFC-BASED PARCELS.
IN THE ABSENCE OF MEANINGFUL LARGE SCALE SUPPORT ALOFT IT APPEARS
DIURNAL FLUXES AND SEA BREEZE INTERACTIONS MAY BE THE PRIMARY FOCUS
FOR ENCOURAGING CONVECTIVE UPDRAFTS...THOUGH WEAK SFC BOUNDARY MAY
ALSO FOCUS A FEW TSTMS. MODEST DEEP SWLY FLOW SUGGESTS THERE WILL
BE SUFFICIENT SHEAR FOR MAINTENANCE OF LONGER LIVED UPDRAFTS THAT
COULD PRODUCE MARGINALLY SEVERE HAIL OR AN ISOLATED SEVERE WIND
GUST. FOR THIS REASON WILL MAINTAIN 15 PERCENT SEVERE PROBS MAINLY
FOR THE CNTRL FL PENINSULA.
