Is this sooner than expected? I can't remember when the changeover was expected up there.

Probably not, late morning/noon was always the time for the metroplex. It's under the heavy bands of precip in the NW counties that are putting spots of changeovers. Freeze line is just east of the Falls to Abilene.

It is moving south and east though at a pretty good clip

Glad for those of you who will have a white Christmas, enjoy it. Looks like here in Austin we missed a chance for precipitation again. Storms just missed us to the north. The rest of the day will be dry, windy and a warning for fire danger.

Change over was forecasted for the metroplex mid afternoon, so yes I would say the change will be earlier than expected.

Latest from FW, it sounds about right to me. Locally heavier amounts possible I believe due to convective nature

If I were FW I would consider adding another row or two of those winter storm warnings. Once again they are playing catch up to a changing situation regarding a winter weather event.

Weather spotters in Bowie are reporting freezing rain starting to accumulate on trees and elevated surfaces, this from NWS FTW

This weather reminds me of spring time. 71 degrees with spotty heavy rain. I havent been in Houston for many Christmas' (often out of town in Jamaica or Arizona) but i have never seen weather like this.

Not to get too far ahead I know many of us are still anticipating today's event, but after this event ends there's going to be more model watching coming up as another potentially big ticket item and cold air to follow into the new year.

Sleet coming down hard near Springtown!

As of 11:30am CST, 1.17 inches of rain here in Little Elm, TX (25 miles north of Dallas). Rain started around 2am with moderate lightning and thunder storm. Temperature is currently 39 degrees; hopeing the changeover will come within the next couple hours. Merry Christmas! Looks like Santa will be good to us this year.
