Looks like most of central and southern FL will still end up with December with above average temps for the entire month, thanks to the back to back days with 70s and 80s during the first 3 weeks of December. These cold snaps during the past 10 days was not enough to bring down the averages down to at least normal for the month.
Here in Orlando the last 10 days, morning lows averaged a cold 44.2 degrees and averaged highs of a cool 69 degrees.
Nothing like December '09, what a cold December that was!

Edit: I just checked the rest of the state's averages, they also will end up with an above average December, Tallahassee +3.8 deg, Jax +2.9 degs above average.
Pensacola with a whopping 4.7 degs above the month's average.
Talking about the CPC's forecast for a cooler than average FL Dec forecast busting big time!

The CPC is now calling for well above avg in both precip and temp for the next 30 days, a stark contrast to what they had only a month ago for Jan. So, if you can change your mind so easily, what validity can be given to it now? Besides being completely off, should we even listen? I know how difficult long range is, but then, why bother if you are so terribly wrong?

They predicted December to be Below Normal temperature wise and it ended up above normal! I guess its really hard to forecast the weather especially during the winter months in these Neutral ENSO years like some people say.

Up and down week. Began freezing cold on Sunday with a nasty wind, highs that struggled into the 50's, gradually warming well into the 70's on Tue and Wed under lots of sunshine. THEN Thur was overcast and 60's, with hours of light to mod rain Thurs night. Today is dark overcast, drizzly, barely 60F and very chilly. Figures this would be my winter break weather! :double:

I know this is somewhat starting to be worse than last year it feels like. I enjoy the chilly winter weather that we were receiving the last two weeks! Now it's back to that summer-like pattern that we ended up in at the beginning of December! This is the only time of year we can have a break from the heat & humidity of the tropics. Before long it will be June again with 90+ temperatures as always every summer in S. FL.

There's always February to look forward too!

Who knows, accuweather's now forecasting a colder weather pattern for much of the eastern U.S beginning 3rd week of this month, with possibly several cold fronts making their way down...the questions are if this may verify...and most importantly, whether the fronts will actually make it all the way down to subtropical S. Florida,

I hope we get some chilly weather, the winter's been pretty lackluster down here in Broward Co so far.

:uarrow: the first sane voice I have heard around here!

If you want to keep your above freezing temps you best speak (knock reason) into those insane, sun stroke damaged Texans!

A word of warning from the source of your possible Nightmare after Christmas.

Hey thanks for the comment SaskatchewanScreamer! :)

I try to add a little hope to the heat-fatigued floridians lol, with the best met knowledge I have of this place.
Been here for nearly 19 years thus far, ever since I was a kid!

Some winters come with all their force and some never show up here, it's the thing about living in the true sub-tropics...bipolar winters!

Historically Late January and Early February have brought humongous cold weather events to our sunshine state, including the southernmost part. Back in '96, I clearly remember a whopping freeze in early Feb...it froze the pipes of the building I used to live in...in the suburbs of Ft. Lauderdale! Not out of the woods just yet.

Not surprisingly historically the months that you have had your coldest temps is also when my province (and Albert and Manitoba) have ours.

Wishing you folks lots of luck. We will all pay if the crops in Florida and Texas (and California...not sure if they are forecasted to get it) all freeze. :double:

I wouldn't be surprised if we see plants bloom like crazy this week in central FL with plenty of 70s and 80s during the entire week.

I was just on AW and saw the cold air plunge anticipated, but they are unsure of how deep and for how long. There are many factors inhibiting its arrival, and this subtropical jet that has stubbornly hung over Mexico and the FL peninsula has been deflecting most of the cold air this winter. I am not against a chill, but NO big freezes please. My yard is starting to grow again, and my shadehouses full of plants are also showing growth. There is nothing worse than a big freeze that follows warm air. Plants get zapped! :ggreen:

If this winter ends warm like this, then I might as well start expecting these warmer than average winters here in S. FL the new normal! The weathers not normal anywhere like it used to be it seems. Maybe Global Warming is to blame??

:uarrow: Short memory loss? Did we forget that we had the coldest December ever just 2 years ago? There is still plenty of winter to go through, with the rest of January and February still to go.
With a Polar vortex in Canada over the next couple of weeks I would not doubt that at some point it will affect the FL Peninsula, this unusual strong subtropical ridge in the Caribbean usually does not hang around for an extended period of time this time of the year.

In all the years I've lived down here, I've noticed that usually ONE out of the three Winter months turns out cold for South FL, and the rest of the State for that matter. Sometimes its December, sometimes January, and sometimes February.

This year so far NOVEMBER has been the coolest month in S. Florida overall, with December being a few degrees above normal.

January is way above normal and looks to still end up being above normal...even if we do get colder weather to end the month.

So February...?

I'd put my bet on February being "the" winter month here, specifically Late January thru mid February. Let's see if this happens...or if we get that once in a while "no show" winter like that of last year or 1999. The odds might favor a chilly end to our winter season.
