It's officially -36F downtown, but I'm reading a -40F (actually -39.8F).
It's -40F outside

What type of weather station do you use that works accurately at such low temperatures? I know the VP2's temperature sensor works from -40 to +60C, but I've never seen that live, so it would be interesting to know.

Just a normal Accurite digital thermometer which works on electronic resistance. Supposedly it is accurate to -58F, but the coldest I've seen since I moved here is -48F on February 2 2011.
It can't be considered a weather station because the probe sits in the sun in the afternoon, which makes for inaccurate afternoon readings.

Re: It's -40F outside
-32F officially last night; I didn't reset the thermometer so I don't know what it was at the house (a breeze picked up in the morning, and clouds blew in so it actually warmed to -20F by the time I left for work).
Anyway, yesterday was so cold that I saw a group of teenagers and they had their pants pulled all the way up.

It's not always cold here in winter. As you can see, it may finally warm up to 25F by Tuesday.
