TWC: Places in northern Long Island have 10 inches of snow in that heavy band with lightning, 2-3 inches per hour near Islip.

Re: NE Winter Storm / Blizzard
These radar returns for temps < 32 have never been seen by this amateur. I'd always wondered what certain returns here is Texas in the Spring would translate to in snow, and I'm getting to see it tonight. And its not a radar thats turned up for a Lake Effect event over Bufflao that picks up birds and planes. Gonna enjoy this.
Just getting started too.

If the temp had only gotten to 31 by 1:00, we'd be looking at a Time Square mess. It never hit the high (34 is the highest I saw in Manhattan) but the mets were dead on on the transition timing.
Without any discussion to base/gauge my opinions from, is it just me or is the Low further east than previously thought?

Is NYC underperforming in the snowfall totals? So far nothing too impressive in the city but not far away in Islip LI much more has fallen.

Re: NE Winter Storm / Blizzard
That's why I was thinking the Low was further east than previously thought (or faster?). Underperformed indeed, according to yesterdays models...upped from the previous day which was closer to what they may see storm total-wise. However, their event is supposed to be overnight, and thats been the thinking from jump street. New Haven CT is going to be impressive in the near term. That band is just setting up shop over long island & S CT.
Boston may be the perfect spot to be later, if trends remain the same. Would've been nice to watching a game at Foxboro while this is developing.

Deformation band sure is something across the northeast. Connecticut and Long Island are getting hammered.

Some more shots from Hayward Landing in Douglas MA. Wind has picked up significantly. Lights are constantly flickering. Hope they stay on!

Just added the 00z charts (1000 mb/surface & 500 mb) to my blog, along with tons of radar & sat data. She is really wound up, too bad we can't get any vis or RGB images though.
