To heck with next Tuesday ... we're having severe weather right now in Austin! Just experienced wind gusts close to 70 mph per trained spotter reports (I knew it had to be above 50 mph but don't have a wind gauge), pea-sized hail, and heavy rain here at the Portastorm Weather Center in scenic southwest Travis County.

Flash flood warnings northwest and southeast of Austin - been a long while since I've seen that!

Also just noticed a tornado warning for Terrell County.

Pretty active weather for a change!

FYI, noticed on the Fort Worth NWS page that today is the anniversary for the April 2, 1987 EF3-EF4 Paris tornado that killed 10.

I remember walking out of Denison High School that afternoon just after the dryline had passed through. Huge wall of cumulonimbus towers were going up just east of town. First funnel was sighted a short while later, then a tornado touchdown near Bonham, then the deadly twister that went through Paris.

There were several other tornadoes that day including an EF-5 in southeastern Oklahoma near Broken Bow. Miraculously, despite a number of houses being destroyed, no one was killed by that twister.

Today is also the anniversary of the 1957 Dallas tornado that went through the Oak Cliff area. One of the first tornadoes that was filmed and photographed so extensively.

Meanwhile, Winter Weather Advisories are up in the northern Texas Panhandle where one to two inches of snow may accumulate tonight.

Looks like a little more than two inches of rain has fallen here at the PWC in the last few hours. Not bad, not bad at all!

I mentioned that system some posts ago and made note of it in the US severe weather thread that is pinned. Parameters and teleconnections suggest we may be dealing with our first spring multi-state tornado outbreak with that storm. Texas will remain in an active pattern for April.

For tonight another shortwave will kick out and is spawning a line in west Texas. More rain overnight for Portastorm!

Wonderful sight tonight across the population centers of Texas. DFW and Austin will be near normal rainfall to date after this is done, not sure about San Antonio as I can't seem to get the updated data for them. Houston needs a lot more but should be cut down some after this week. I'll see if I can get numbers tomorrow.

Reports of tennis ball and ping pong ball sized hail near Santa Fe, TX last night.

Reports of near softball sized hail in Hitchcock, TX as well.

I guess the line fizzled out. I kind of thought it would. The first line 'sapped' all the energy for the first one to work with. Anybody have any radar images of the line dissipating?

I am grateful for the 1.4 inches of rain we received from the storms last night, and that there was no hail or wind damage

Here are a few videos and and pic from yesterday's/early this morning's storms in my area. HEAVY rain, but nice. Just had our beds mulched yesterday. Not much erosion, considering a lot of the mulch was UNDERWATER for a time. NO HAIL thankfully!

Ditto! We picked up another inch or so at the PWC with the late evening squall line. That brings the 24-hour precip total at the PWC to 3.04 inches. Three inches of rain!!!

And I see more coming this morning.
