Google Earth Help

I use google earth for recon and have just today tried to open it from the last time I used it to post recon. It has 3 times crashed windows xp. Anyone have any ideas what could be going on?

Try a reinstall of Google Earth. Windows XP is getting old you might think about an upgrade to Windows 7.

thanks Irak. Yeah, it has kept on chugging, but I know its gonna have to go sooner rather than later. I think I will try a re-install. I've tried everything else and still no go.

You're welcome, I forgot one thing. Since Google Earth was updated you might try to update your video card drivers. Also I read that removing street view helps with this XP crash issue. Google, "XP Google Earth crash" and a lot of people are having the same problems as you.

Try arcgis explorer. It has most of the functionality of Google Earth. Plus it loads shape files and klm files. You can always by a vintage 3d card from eBay for $10. Then there is http://www.sa-pc.com. They have refurbished dells.

I can't figure a way to turn off the auto installer. You will be okay for a while until the program auto updates again. If you roll back to v5 it might not have an auto updater.

thanks, that is what I ended up doing. The only problem I have now is that it will not allow me to zoom in very far and keep the satellite images, which I never had a problem with previously.

It is an older version. It might be older than the version that updated. I found a PCI video card on EBay that I am going to install on one of my dell 3000's, but Dell's are quarkie.

The ESRI Explorer lets you import KLM. I haven't worker with enough to see if it has real time weather.

found out what was wrong. If you go under view within google earth and unclick atmosphere you are once again able to zoom in with image.

Looks like the $10 3D card fix I proposed didn't have enough system ram to function properly. I can use the older version. I just use it to check latitude and longitude, and to file station descriptions. Whatever I'll figure it out later. It works fine on my workstation, and laptop the download stations are just slaves to the server.
