New track map of Typhoon Dolphin (0822)

#1 Postby Meow » Sat Jun 15, 2013 12:36 pm

The previous track map of Typhoon Dolphin (0822) lacks the extratropical period, so I checked all JMA advisories between 2-8 December and made a new one. Here is the result:

It looks much ridiculous than the previous one, but that is reality.

They named a TC Dolphin? That's an interesting name! That is a really cool map! Talk about making a loop.

In fact, I posted this at eight places—four forums, three social networking services and Wikimedia Commons. :ggreen:

Submitted by Hong Kong, it means the Chinese white dolphin.

It was almost a hurricane-force extratropical cyclone at unusual low-latitudes. :D Tropical transition is very rare in this basin, but Dolphin did successfully.

Do they use other animal names? I could see a Typhoon Dragon or Wolf.

There was Typhoon Longwang which means ‘dragon king’. :ggreen:

Many names are actually from animals and plants.
