Very good and excellent news from PR. Thanks for your report (daily!) :). You looks like the Lesser Antilles have been spared by Chantal :). Yes, no death!!! Let's hope that this trend continues the next couple of weeks of July :)and much more... :D

Most of us in the Lesser Antilles have been spared but Martinica not. By the way, how are you Caribwxgirl, what's up in your island? :)

hi all,
here at the north coast of the Dominican Republic we have light to moderate rain since early morning with at times distant but fairly loud thunder and lightning, but nothing too bad so far here on the north shore.
Hope the South of our island and Haiti will be ok.

For those interested here a webcam and windmeter from Cabarete, North Coast DR: http://www.oceandreamcabarete.com/cabarete-webcam-dominican-republic.html

Hi my friends :) , i suppose that many of you want to know the latest on TS Chantal. I share with you these interresting datas.
For those who are interrested, here the latest recap of Meteo-France Martinica concerning Chantal's impacts in Martinica.
Here are some datas observed yesterday. Those concerning the gusts values are bit impressive, (given my untrained eyes ) for a moderate TS, especially in one area of the island . See below :darrow: :

:rarrow: http://www.meteo.fr/temps/domtom/antill ... ivi_ma.pdf ( french version)

During the episode:

Rainfall: Between 80 millimeters and 120 millimeters on the southern part of the island, and 30 millimeters to 80 millimeters elsewhere in the island.

Winds:
Gusts: Between 100 km/h and 120km/h till 170 km/h  at Morne les Cadets

Sea: Waves averaged 1 meter in the Bay of Fort-de-France (center of the island).

Waves averaged 4,30 meters in Atlantic with waves maxima up to 7 meters.

Regards
Gustywind :)

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
329 PM AST WED JUL 10 2013

.SYNOPSIS...WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE TO IMPROVE OVER
THE NEXT FEW HOURS...AS CHANTAL MOVES FURTHER AWAY FROM THE
LOCAL ISLANDS. MID-UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL HOLD THROUGH FRIDAY.
TUTT WILL THEN ESTABLISH OVER THE WEEKEND AND HOLD THROUGH
EARLY NEXT WEEK.

&&

.DISCUSSION...CLOUDINESS AND PASSING SHOWERS ACROSS THE LOCAL
ISLANDS PREVAILED THROUGHOUT THE DAY. HOWEVER...WEATHER
CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE TO IMPROVE TONIGHT...AS CHANTAL MOVES
FURTHER AWAY AND A DRIER AIR MASS WITH SAHARAN DUST MOVES IN.
AS A RESULT...THE POTENTIAL FOR FLASH FLOODING HAS DECREASED
AND THE WATCH WAS CANCELLED.

EXPECT A FAIR WEATHER PATTERN AND HAZY CONDITIONS FOR THE NEXT
TWO DAYS OR SO...WITH A FEW PASSING SHOWERS ACROSS EASTERN AND
NORTHERN PUERTO RICO DURING THE MORNING HOURS...FOLLOWED BY
LIMITED AFTERNOON CONVECTION ACROSS PORTIONS OF WESTERN PUERTO
RICO. IN FACT...THE NAVY NAAPS MODEL SUGGESTED THAT THIS IS A
SIGNIFICANT AREA OF DUST MOVING IN...AND REMAINING AT LEAST
THROUGH SATURDAY.

SHOWER/THUNDERSTORM INTENSITY AND COVERAGE WILL INCREASE SUNDAY
INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK AS TUTT DEVELOPS ACROSS THE CENTRAL ATLANTIC
INTO THE NORTHEASTERN CARIBBEAN. NEXT TROPICAL WAVE WITH
ASSOCIATED WIND SURGE EXPECTED ON TUESDAY.

&&

.AVIATION...-SHRA ACTIVITY IS STILL POSSIBLE MAINLY OVER THE
PR TERMINALS AND CAN CAUSE BRIEF MVFR. VCSH ARE EXPECTED THROUGH
THE DAY AND LATER ELIMINATED AS CONDITIONS CONTINUE TO IMPROVE.
OVC AND BKN SKIES WILL CLEAR UP OVERNIGHT. WINDS WILL BE MAINLY
FROM THE EAST AT 10 TO 15KTS BUT VARIABLE AND WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
WINDS WILL DECREASE AFTER 10/22Z BUT REMAIN EASTERLY.

&&

.MARINE...ALTHOUGH SEAS WILL REMAIN ROUGH...CONDITIONS WILL
REMAIN BELOW SMALL CRAFT CRITERIA. EXPECT SEAS UP TO 6 FEET
AND WINDS 21 KNOTS OR LESS.

First death from Tropical Storm Chantal
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Tropical Storm Chantal skirted the southern coasts of the Dominican Republic and Haiti on Wednesday, losing force but heavy rain still posed a threat to some of the region's most vulnerable people.

The storm did not make landfall on the island of Hispaniola shared by the two nations. But Chantal brought heavy rain to areas prone to flooding and landslides in places where many people live in flimsy homes of plywood and corrugated steel.

In both countries, people fortified houses with tarps and wood and gathered supplies, largely ignoring warnings to leave their neighborhoods.

"We're going to wait until it's over. We're already used to this," said 36-year-old Sergio Guzman, who along the banks of a river near Santo Domingo.

A Dominican firefighter was killed in the community of Maimon, about 50 miles (85 kilometers) north of the capital, Santo Domingo, when he was swept away by floodwaters as he tried to clear a storm drain, said Luis Luna, director of the country's civil defense agency. The death of 26-year-old Juan Ramon Rodriguez was believed to be the first caused by Chantal, which began moving through the Caribbean on Tuesday.
