Good evening all. What a day it is and has been. From the flooding and severe weather in the South and Northeast to all of the tragic events throughout the U.S. and world, it is a very busy day news-wise.

On to better news. I got n 85% on my Windows XP quiz today - which is a solid B. ;) :D That is a good way to begin the class.

PLUS I am likely going to be getting a JOB soon!! :D :D :D Yay! :D You don't know how excited I am about that! :D I will be answering phones for a company on the next street over (talk about convenience). I will also be doing clerical work for them. :) YAY! ;)

And the sorm for net week for us looks like a sure bet now. The NWS office for my area has ALREADY issued a Special Weather Statement on it - here it is:

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
ALL OF EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA-
200 PM PST FRI FEB 21 2003

...A COLD PACIFIC STORM WILL AFFECT EXTREME SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MONDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY...

A COLD PACIFIC STORM DEVELOPING IN THE GULF OF ALASKA WILL MOVE INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MONDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

THE STORM WILL BRING PERIODS OF RAIN...HEAVY AT TIMES...THROUGH WEDNESDAY WITH SNOW AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. THE RAIN WILL TURN TO SHOWERS TUESDAY NIGHT AND LINGER INTO WEDNESDAY. THERE WILL ALSO BE A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS TUESDAY.

THE LATEST RAINFALL ESTIMATES FOR MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY ARE FOR ABOUT 1 TO 2 INCHES WEST OF THE MOUNTAINS...2 TO 4 INCHES IN THE MOUNTAINS AND UP TO ABOUT AN 1 INCH IN THE DESERTS. THE SNOW LEVEL WILL LOWER TO 5000 BY TUESDAY MORNING...AND ABOUT 4000 FEET BY TUESDAY AFTERNOON. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 12 TO 18 INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED ABOVE 5000 FEET.

SOME OF THE HEAVY RAIN IN THE MOUNTAINS COULD FLOW INTO THE DESERTS. THE HEAVY RAIN WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE FLOODING OF POORLY DRAINED LOW LYING AREAS AND SMALL STREAMS. THERE COULD ALSO BE MUD SLIDES... ESPECIALLY IN THE RECENTLY BURNED AREAS. SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 25 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED IN THE COASTAL AND VALLEY AREAS. SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS 25 TO 35 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS CAN BE EXPECTED IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS.

THE RAIN WILL TURN TO SHOWERS THURSDAY AND GRADUALLY TAPER OFF.

:o :o :o

That's all for now, c ya! -- Joshua

Hi everyone! I hope you all have had a good day! My day at work was absolutely DREADFUL! I don't know if I came across one person who wasn't a total crab! I had to call my manager in twice because I had customers screaming at me and I got stressed and kept making mistakes.......let's just say Thank God it's all over!
I can't believe the concert tragedy! When I left for work this morning the death toll was only about 30! It's absolutely horrible, but let's just hope now that 2 nightclub accidents have happened so close together that people will really evaluate the places they go, I know I will!
With all that said, onto the weather: OHMIGOD, is it foggy outside! For a point I was beginning to wonder if I would make it home! I could see maybe a car-length ahead of me and that was it! I hope it keeps up until tomorrow morning, I would really like to sleep in a few hours! Maybe just wishful thinking, but hey, a girl can dream!
I think I'll go attack the gameboards now.....hehehehe! Have a good night everyone!

Just got back home after having wine, a fine Italian dinner with Veal Parm and stuffed shells and a nice dutch choc cake...I'm a little tipsy, but didnt have to drive!

Breeze...I had a root canal done on a back tooth...no matter how much novacaine they needle into you, you still feel it.....and this tooth had 3 nerve endings...not the usual 2!

The news nationwide is so unreal today with the tragedies and weather...I guess I'll remember this day for awhile!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes...I had a great day otherwise and waiting for the bad storms come to flood us.....tis life!

Um ... OK. :o

Anyway, just checking in again. It is 58.4 outside on this mostly clear night.

I'll throw a log on the fire for those of us who are cold and for those who are getting rained on or snowed on, plus for those of us being affected by the severe weather.

To those in the line of fire from the severe weather: Stay safe as much as you can. It'll be a long night and a long day tomorrow, I know. ;) - Joshua

The California Storm

#532 Postby Aslkahuna » Fri Feb 21, 2003 10:58 pm

is expected to move into AZ Tuesday and Wednesday and TUS NWS is calling for 0.5-1.0in in the Valleys and more in the mountains. Based upon what I see, this one will be like the storm two weeks ago where areas north and west of us got the mosty rain though we will still see some along with possible thunderstorms. But considering that this last system was mostly ours alone down here, we can't complain.

I'll keep an eye on the fire... I'm not goin' anywhere for awhile... I have to sit at a table and sell 50/50 raffle tickets outside the town drug store for most of tomorrow anyways...

I saw someone sunbathing on the frozen lake today... I only wished I had my camera... quite an ingenious way to work on the tan naturally... but, our two day stint above the freezing mark will end once the next storm rolls in tomorrow morning... The sun was nice while it lasted...

The highlight of my day was watching the opening ceremonies for the Empire State Games (high school athletes from all over the northeast & Canada who compete in winter sporting events) so these folks are future Olympians - a couple of years ago both Jim Shea (skeleton) and Sara Hughs (figure skating) were in them. O-Town (you know... the ones that sing "All, or nothing at all" and more recently "These are the days") gave a mini-concert singing their 2 radio hits. They gave autographs afterwards... I didn't think that it was worth standing in line for 3 hours... but a lot of the girls there did...

Actually, I got something even better: an autographed picture of Yolanda Vega - the *ultimate* New York State Lottery Drawing announcer (anyone from New York *knows* who I am talking about  ) We chatted for a couple of minutes... I like bumping elbows with the rich and famous... I get to do that a lot up in this neck of the woods... of course, It helps that the "next town over" has hosted the winter olympics twice... NY Lottery was there because they are the main sponsor for the Empire State Games.

*looks outside*

I'll make sure the generator is gassed up...

After all... nothing is more comforting than sitting in front of the pot-bellied stove with your pals when old man winter struts his stuff...

catch y'all later...

- gator.

heehee....actually everyone that treated me to dinner inhaled everything in sight! Then we came back here for a little 'swig' of a nightcap and everyone left for a short, drunk ride a few houses up to their homes...lol Was a good cake too.....chocolate cake with real whipped cream on the top and some strawberries with creme...kind of a Dutch-made cake...was awesome! i guess for this crew and how hungry people get, I'll have to whip up something just as good, if not better! Habe a good night everyone...stay safe!

lol Josh....crazy aint I?

Well my special day has passed, but the weather is still pretty nasty along the east coast today and I hope people are tuned into their local reports, radars, and radio stations, as well as on here relaying whats going on. Please stay safe and protected! We want to talk and live to see another day!

Its pouring rain here and a real cold 33 degrees as well. That sucks! I hope the snowpack absorbs most of this rain and a dry wedge is moving in until later when we get the backside of this crap....could be much colder and icy and snowy, but I'll take this...long as its light. over half an inch in my gauge, so we'll watch for the basements to stay dry....hopefully!

Take care everyone and hope to hear some inside stories on the weather events today and even yesterday....this has been a wild end to the week and weekend for sure!

Hi Guys - hope you're having a fun weekend. Rob besides that plywood you'll probably need some insulation and a vapor barrier to keep out all that rain & snow -see, the plastic will come in handly after all,lol  Happy belated too...

It sounds like you already have a plan and the details worked out Pojo, so your friend over there who is still in will be able to give you *current* information and you won't have to rely on outdated advice, lol. I'm sure you'll make the decision best for you. Have fun & keep us posted.

Well Aslkahuna the rain here from last week was certainly a joy and godsend, but it's just enough to make the grasses grow quickly in April...then we're in for the blast furnace starting in May & it's going to dry out fast. The resevoirs still are very low and water rationing is on the horizon for most the Southwest. We don't use groundwater as your part of the state, so we're dependant on the lakes and Colorado River water via the aquaduct.

North Carolina & Virgina are getting pounded as we speak with a line of severe thunderstorms all the way down to Florida - take care guys. Time to take a vacation to New Orleans for Marti Gras :Fade-color Who wants to go ??
