Something like this would usually go on the Off-Topic board, but I KNOW most people are here for the storm info.

The main page says
In total there are 68 users online :: 35 Registered, 5 Hidden and 28 Guests

Guests, we invite you to join us! Let us know who you are.

And those 5 who think they're hidden...*peeking under the bed*...I seeeeeeee youuuuuuuuu!

I am registered, I can't intelligently contribute to the discussions. I live in Wilmington, NC and after having recent visitors of Bertha, Fran and Floyd, I am just concerned about this one! Most of what you folks are discussing is over my head. Just hoping to continue by lurking. Hope you all don't mind! 8-)

Fine fine fine *Laughs* I've been hiding under a "guest" number for the last 4 days while I tried unsucessfully to get an account- finally the email address seems to have worked and I'm live.

Not much to say though in general. I'm a 'cane chaser in Houston. Lived here for 11 years waiting for the "perfect" hurricane to roll through (Light Cat1 or Cat2) and finally living vicariously through stat maps.... since I jsut don't think it's ever going to happen LOL

Having WAY too much fun watching Issy :)

A BIG TEXAS WELCOME FROM ANOTHER CANE CHASER IN HOUSTON!!! We actually have an "official" chaser(Hurricane and tornado) who is a member here with a full set up. If one comes through he will be here and I will join him(actually anywhere within about 500 miles of Houston).

I've been in Houston for 32 years and on the Gulf Coast since 1953 so I've seen just about all there is 'cane wise. Not bragging, but when you've been around an active area that long it happens.

What kind of set up do you have? And why only Cat1 ot Cat2? What about Claudette? Did you miss her?(I did as far as chasing since he hadn't joined us yet.)

AND TO ALL YOU LURKERS-JOIN IN!!! We all have to start somewhere!! You will find there is no stupid question on this board. We are here to discuss, and to educate and to have fun.

AGAIN WELCOME TO THE BEST ON THE NET-STORM2K!!!!!

*chuckles* Why only a cat1 or cat2? I have a wonderful husband who's a little cranky about his wife's "unhealthy" interest in hurricanes. I think he believes I'm thow myself out on the beach and just let the hurricane come. So he's threatened to pack up everything and leave if a cat3 comes through the area. :o

Missed Claudette- and I can't remember why for the life of me other than I was out of town. I'm more of a chaser in the amature sense of the word *laughs* so no real set up other than a fast computer and a willingness to thorw myself towards a hurricane. OH... Right! I was on my honeymoon when Claudette came through this summer. (And yet another reason why the husband thinks I'm crazy as I was wishing it to stall so we could get back and I could go chase!)

Loving this board though

(and this is ecleptic- who actully got her origional signon fixed when I typed the email address wrong... nad will be remaining OG!)

Bud67
no problem
I am in the same situation, living here in the Northern Caribbean islands
do not hesitate ,however, to voice any questions and/or concerns you might have
these people here are the nicest
sometimes I don't know what they are saying either LOL
but they will always take the time to explain to us "novices"
so I am learning a lot from all of them

I used to lurk at GOPBI and found this board recently. I thought I'd register just to post on this thread! I appreciate the info I pick up on this board, especially now. I work just two blocks off the ocean in Kill Devil Hills so I keep an eye to the tropics most of the time. I've got my fingers crossed that Isabel keeps herself out to sea.

Thanks again for the info.

OK OK. Hi.

I'm Chris, currently in Delray Beach FL, originally from West Palm Beach. I'm one of those people who always, as a matter of principle, and from optimism (I want them to roll right over my house usually), thinks that any hurricane with any remote chance of heading my way will. So, I am wrong a lot. So I won't be posting any predictions anytime soon. However, local friends and family, I drive them insane with predictions of impending disaster.

I think it stems from going through three canes when i was a small child - Cleo, Betsy and Isbel. To me back then it was a great adventure. I was like around maybe 4 years old. The whole extended family would gather at our house (it was judged to be the strongest) and sort of camped out inside, all dark, candlelight, cooking on sterno and even the grill (yeah, that was safe), people sleeping everywhere, and the wind howling. I vaguely remember wandering outside during one of the storms, following dad who had to go do some unknown thing. He was not pleased, but I thought it was great, I didn't understand what the problem was. It's one of my earliest memories.

Irene had me ecstatic, even though it hardly counted as a hurricane. I stayed up late watching the transformers explode in showers of sparks, watching the trees whip around, strolling through the wind and the rain to see if anything was getting blown away or over. I didn't even mind no power for three days. Then again I do like camping. Having to put the shutters up and all the plants (hundreds of them) in and then put it all back was by far the worst of it.

Floyd had me all excited, but I admit I was getting a bit concerned and nervous on that one. So far Isabel hasn't scared me yet - but that could change. For the moment I am savoring her approach.

I live two long blocks from the intercoastal if you want to get literal about it (would be 3 or 4 if the streets didn't go goofy), but it is on high ground, old sand dunes, so unless they have changed the evacuation zones I can stay though a category five even. The house is kind of old, I worry about loosing the roof. It's rented so I won't cry if it is destroyed, as long as me and mine aren't hurt. But, mostly I worry about the dog. He is big and we aren't completely sure he is housebroken. He is a pound dog and he has always been kept outside except for short visits inside. And he is big. I really really hope he is well housebroken. He also howls and cries and generally freaks out every time the train goes by. I hope hurricane winds don't have the same effect on him.

I also like volcanoes (I was so upset mom and dad didn't let me take the family car from where we lived in Montana to go see Mt St Hellens erupt), thunderstorms, tornadoes, floods, geysers, etc.... anything where nature shows her power to the puny humans.

I waste way too much time on the Internet during hurricane season too.
