On a good note the low this morning at DFW airport was 64 degrees which was only 1 degree shy of the record low of 63 set in 1992. Tomorrow's record is 65, it may be a little warmer tonight but we'll give it a run for it's money. It definitely felt crisp, 3rd morning in a row of pleasant running weather in mid-August.

Drought begets drought. The latest from the NWS:
"FOR THE TROPICS...THERE IS ALMOST NOTHING
LEFT OF THE GULF OF MEXICO DISTURBANCE DUE TO THE DRIER WESTERN GULF
OF MEXICO AIR AND STRONG UPPER LEVEL WINDS. THE MOST RECENT TROPICAL
WEATHER OUTLOOK ISSUED FROM THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER NOW PLACES
A ZERO PERCENT CHANCE OF DEVELOPMENT WITH THIS SYSTEM..........
MARINE...
LITTLE TO NO THREAT FOR A DEVELOPING SOUTHERN GULF TROPICAL
DEPRESSION. DRY AIR MOVING DOWN ALONG THE WESTERN LEG OF THE CENTRAL
GULF TROUGH AXIS HAS ALL BUT SNUFFED OUT ONCE-ACTIVE GULF CONVECTION."
Storms are getting eaten even before they form now

Re: Texas Summer - 2013
horselattitudesfarm, maybe you could try the ol' weather anti-jinx. Thursday night I posted on my Facebook page a status update that read "It will never rain again in Austin. Ever." Two hours later I had lightning, thunder, and about three-quarters of an inch of rain.

Haha!
I think horselattitudesfarm, Portastorm, and I need to get together and have donuts -- or danish if it's a special occasion.

Re: Texas Summer - 2013
How about a sausage and jalapeno cheddar kolache from the Czech Stop in West?!
On a weather note, the town of Indianola, Texas, had good and bad news on this date in 1886. The good news? A Category 4 hurricane hit and ended the multi-year drought. The bad news? It didn't really matter because that same hurricane destroyed the town. This was the second of two major hurricanes to hit the community, once the county seat of Calhoun County, in 11 years. Sadly the community never returned.

Just read on KXAN that Carlos and Charlies is to close on Lake Travis due to evergoing drought and low lake conditions killing business. Also there I found this:

Yep ... sad story. Lake Travis is now only just eight feet above its all-time low level set in 1951.
The Texas Water Development Board has a nifty website which shows reservoir levels. Here it is:

Yeah, I try not to think about it. It is going to take regular, consistent, above-normal rains for a period of several months to get us out of this.
Or the other option is a catastrophic flood like in 2007 in Marble Falls which completely filled Lake Travis over several days. No one wants a bad flood. Every time I see a story about it, it just depresses me further.

I wish I could bring good news for the lakes but there just isn't any. -PDO is STILL dominating the Pacific. The analogs says the tropics should awaken and it still may but as of right now there is nada going on down there anywhere in the Atlantic basin just lots of dry sinking air throughout the gulf, MDR, and subtropics.
We are also near record low territory in terms of tornado count across the country, meaning we're just not getting those big systems to swing through.

That actually does nothing for the Texas lakes. I'm sure the coastal communities aren't enjoying their beach day because of it

Re: Texas Summer - 2013
Take your umbrella today. A continued chance of tropical thunderstorms will continue the rest of the week with morning funnels and waterspouts possible each day with the tropical airmass. Minor flooding will develop with the heavier cells. Tropics remain very quiet.

Little update from guidance. Big dome of high pressure is going to anchor itself in the central plains roughly around Missouri. Texas is on the southern periphery. SE Texas and South Texas are going to see daily pop up scattered showers not unlike what's been going on for a few days. The feature in the eastern gulf is heading west and will roundabout underneath the flow of the high. Once this thing gets to TX we'll see more numerous showers especially the southern half of the state. The hottest temps will remain in the north 93-98 and mid 80s to lower 90s in the south in the more humid air to end the month.
