Unlike the last 2-3 summers where we had a more W-SW flow bringing the bulk of the afternoon stroms towards the E. coast of FL, this summer we are having about the complete opposite with an E-SE flow due to the stronger than normal ridging in the west Atlantic, majority of the afternoon storms since the very beginning of this month have been along the W. coast of FL. SE FL like HURAKAN stated has been almost well below normal on monthly rainfall in August!

Luckily the Atlantic seems to continue to be hostile for Tropical Development. Just last year at this time we were getting ready to deal with Isaac and all the flooding rains it produced. This year seems likely to be the total opposite.

the deep southeast flow creating the best convergence for thunderstorm activity on the west side of the peninsula has been MIA for much of the past several Summers. It's nice to have it back for a change. Lightning capital USA is earning its title this year.

The summer thunderstorm season on the west coast here has been in full force for a while. Love all the storms and lightning. There has only been a few days this year that I was upset about a broken forecast for storms.

You can tell north Florida has had more rainfall than normal. Many of the roads are covered in clay, and there are new "lakes" everywhere.

...and the heavens opened up at 230pm! Tstorm just stuck around West Pasco for over an hour, dumping almost 2" of rain and some nasty lightning. August has now officially become wet, with over 10" after that slow start. More due. :P

Oh yes, a really true sign that autumn is not far away now. We had a frontal passage which occured yesterday over Northeast Florida and now the front is now draped across the south central peninsula. May have enough push to pass through South Florida by tonight. Fresh northeast breeze off the Atlantic will keep max temps only in the mid 80s today and we may see some showers come in off the Atlantic later today.

I have measured just over 12.50 inches for the month to this point, another wet one for sure.

I noticed it felt less humid outside today, especially in the shade. However, it did rain for most of the morning and afternoon, maybe that had something to do with it. But back in June and July, when we had all of that rain, it didn't feel much cooler, it just got muggy and warm.

Been a dry August here. Most of the rain that's fallen for most of the summer is from troughs and ULL's. Afternoon storms haven't been the norm this rainy season on the east coast.

It has just rained in buckets this summer here. We have had a few days here and there where it didnt rain (a few), but some were just showers that d not amount to much. Nothing of consequence since Sunday - a few showers. Sides of roads are flooded. Lakes overflowing. A true rainy season here! :D

This topic has been dead for almost a month! Anyone starting to wonder what this fall and winter will be like now that hurricane season seems to be a big dud?

:uarrow: Well, time to start posting on this thread again for me, doubt that we will have much if anything to post in the tropical page for the rest of the season.

I think that we may have a fairly cold winter, or at least colder than the last two years.
Mother Nature has a way to balance itself out and since there has been no hurricanes to cool down the very warm Atlantic waters and most of GOM we may see a persistent troughiness pattern during the winter across the eastern US.
The NAO is crashing for the first time in a long time as I type this and this could be a sign of things to come, IMO.

Looks like maybe a tiny taste of fall for S. FL over the next couple of days. Forecast lows of 71º sound good to me. It seems like it's been raining in my neighborhood everyday for the past two weeks or so, and I'm sick of stepping in muddy puddles where my car is parked. :cheesy: This summer hasn't been too bad for me, but I'm ready for winter.

I live in Lee County east of I75 in Lehigh. We are so saturated and flooded from all the rain. Mosquitos are back again too. I am hoping we get some time to dry out.

It is my understanding that we are to have a wet and chilly winter. When I look back over the last 6 years, I see a pattern. Soggy drowning Summer was always followed by a colder than normal winter. These appeared to match up with El Nino. I look forward to what this Winter may bring. If it is below 85, then I am happy. :)

Last summer was even wetter for S. FL imo, and the winter following it was quite warm overall, despite the very late stronger than normal cold fronts.

Also we are not in an El Nino at the present time, were in a Neutral ENSO.

Well last summer over here on this side was not all that wet, especially compared to this one. Winter was rather mild except for 3 weeks in Jan/Feb. I know we are not in El Nino now, but it was forecasted to become. Interesting to see what happens. Perhaps there is no rhyme or reason to the last 5-6 years. As long as my backyard garden can be planted when the flooding goes down, and doesnt freeze over this winter, I will be happy. What I dont want is to sweat or wade anymore. .....
