Well, I guess the cyclone that scared the crap out of me most was Hurricane Mitch. I believe one of his advisories had maximum sustained winds of 200 mph with gusts to 235.

From the NHC Preliminary Report on Mitch:
<<<< The 905 mb minimum central pressure and estimated maximum sustained wind speed of 155 knots over the western Caribbean make Mitch the strongest October hurricane (records began in 1886). Mitch moved across the Yucatan Peninsula and southern Florida as a tropical storm.>>>>>
155 knots converts to 178 mph.

Juliette of 2001 was a monster category 4 hurricane that has Cat.5 appearance
I think she may had already passed peak intensity at the time when recon arrived, perhaps stronger on this image

The Pacific is where all the best looking hurricanes or tropical cyclones are. The most recently good looking hurricane in the Atlantic in my opinion was Hurricane Wilma with it's pinhole eye.

A few like Sandy from last year, but no where as good looking as Hurricane Wilma at it's peak. Of course it was the strongest recorded TC in the Atlantic Basin ever to date.

Mitch at his peak was the best looking cyclone I've seen in the Atlantic basin, Sustained winds of 180 with gusts to 210 at one point.

Loved this picture of Super Typhoon Gay in 1992...
It's incredible to see such a large typhoon with a classic pinhole eye...Registered 8.0 on the dvorak scale for nine consecutive hours...
