Henri and my Local Severe Weather Alert -

#1 Postby Stephanie » Thu Sep 11, 2003 12:33 pm

Severe Weather Alert from the National Weather Service

...SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ 602 AM EDT THU SEP 11 2003
... THE REMNANTS OF TROPICAL STORM HENRI SLATED TO AFFECT THE REGION FRIDAY AND SATURDAY...

THE REMNANTS OF TROPICAL STORM HENRI, WHICH HAVE BEEN SITTING OFF THE NORTH CAROLINA COAST THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS, ARE FORECAST TO MOVE TO THE NORTH INTO THE WEEKEND.

AS THE SYSTEM MOVES NORTH, IT WILL RUN INTO DEPARTING HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED OVER THE NORTHEASTERN UNITED STATES. AS THIS TRANSITION OCCURS, THE PRESSURE GRADIENT OR DIFFERENCE IN PRESSURE BETWEEN THE TWO SYSTEMS WILL INCREASE ACROSS THE REGION. THIS IN TURN WILL MAKE FOR SOME BREEZY CONDITIONS FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY. AT THE SAME TIME, IT APPEARS RAIN WILL BE LIKELY AS WE HEAD INTO THE FIRST PART OF THE WEEKEND. THE RAIN COULD BE HEAVY AT TIMES. WITH THE SYSTEM NOT COMPLETELY OUT OF OUR AREA ON SUNDAY, A SCATTERED SHOWER CAN NOT BE RULED OUT.

ALONG WITH INCREASED WINDS AND THE LIKELIHOOD OF RAIN, HIGH SURF AND A GREATER THREAT OF RIP CURRENTS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE, AT LEAST THROUGH THE EARLY PART OF THE WEEKEND....

Let's just say this weekend will not be very pleasant for most people in the northern mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. It's funny how these things often seem to hit during weekends. Can't it wait until Monday?

Going to be a wet second-half of the weekend down here too, as long as it holds off for football on Saturday, I guess I'm ok with it.
