Well last summer over here on this side was not all that wet, especially compared to this one. Winter was rather mild except for 3 weeks in Jan/Feb. I know we are not in El Nino now, but it was forecasted to become. Interesting to see what happens. Perhaps there is no rhyme or reason to the last 5-6 years. As long as my backyard garden can be planted when the flooding goes down, and doesnt freeze over this winter, I will be happy. What I dont want is to sweat or wade anymore. .....

Well, it has been awhile since I posted on this thread, and with a lackluster tropical season in 2013, it is time to look ahead to the winter season. Actually, it has been a blessing in many ways that the hurricane season has turned out this way as the only action the peninsula has seen was a weakening T.S. Andrea back in early June. Given all the rain we have seen across most areas of the peninsula this year, being spared this season from tropical cyclones has been fortunate.

A picture perfect day here in Jax with temps in the lower 80s. I did take a peek at the long range models and it appears that GFS wants to develop a large and amplified trough across the Eastern U.S. by the latter part of next week. This may bring the first true arrival of really cool temps across the SE US and to the panhandle and North Florida by the time Halloween arrives.

A portion of the Local Forecast Discussion from NWS Office in Miami, FL.

As of 3:35pm EDT Fri. October 18th, 2013
A MORE AMPLIFIED TROUGH DIGS INTO THE EASTERN SEABOARD DURING THE MIDDLE
PART OF NEXT WEEK. THIS LOOKS TO SEND A STRONG COLD FRONT SOUTH
INTO FLORIDA, BUT WHERE IT ENDS UP AND STALLS IS IN QUESTION, SO
THERE IS A HIGH DEGREE OF UNCERTAINTY IN THE WEATHER FOR THE
SECOND HALF OF NEXT WEEK. IT COULD BE DRIER AND COOLER WITH THE
FRONT SOUTH OF OUR AREA (PER 18.12Z GFS) OR IT COULD BECOME WET
WITH A CONCERN FOR HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS SOUTHEAST FLORIDA (PER
18.12Z ECMWF). TOO EARLY TO SAY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

Which model usually performs better in these situations GFS or ECMWF?

Sadly here in S. FL it looks as if we're going to have to wait a bit longer for our first big cool down of the season to arrive. After the big dud of a hurricane season I've been looking forward to our first real cold front for weeks now.

Looks like we are still on track to see the first significant cool weather spell of the Fall season later this week. May see morning low temps in the 40s across portions of the panhandle and the northern peninsula by Thursday morning . Really looking forward to that.

Well, Fall has finally arrived now here in Jax. The first of 2 cold fronts this week passed through the area in the wee hours of this morning. I measured just over 3/4 of an inch of rain overnight as the front ws moving through. It is a glorious day here a sunny skies and much drier and cooler conditions are filtering into the area. Currently the temp is 71.3 degrees.

We are in store for beautiful, cool Fall weather the rest of this week. Tomorrow morning's low temps are forecast to fall into the mid-uper 40s across interior areas of North Florida and the Big Bend region. There will be an even stronger reinforcing secondary cold front to move through the region on Friday as a large upper level trough across the Eastern U.S. continues to amplify the next few days. This will bring the coolest weather yet this weekend. Minimum temps may drop into the upper 30s-lower 40s across portions of the northern peninsula during the upcoming weekend. I am really looking forward to the cool weather for sure!!

Currently 48.3 degrees, a refreshingy cool morning, the coolest readings since April. Feels great. Cool mornings in store right into this weekend. Some of the normally colder locations in interior North Florida may get to near 40 degrees for minimums during this weekend as a stronger, secondary cold front will reinforce the cool weather through the next few days. .

Though I am big warm wx fan the 90 deg temps & mid 70s dewpoints during the past few days was a big too much for this time of the year and was not helping my electric bill.
Today it felt great, right now I am sitting in my screened back patio enjoying the free air conditioning at 63 degrees courtesy of mother nature.
I love warm days and cool/mild nights, perfect wx if you ask me for this time of the year.

Currently 47.4 degrees at 6:15 a.m at my locale. Temp probably will drop another couple of degrees for the next couple of hours before the sun gets up.

Checking obs this hour the coldest spots across North Florida are the usual places, with Crestview out in the panhandle at 37 degrees and Tallahassee at 40 degrees. Spots inland in Northeast Florida range from the lower-mid 40s most spots.

The low temperature at my locale in Jax bottomed out at 46.6 degrees at 7: 50 this morning. Max temp today will struggle to reach 70 degrees. Tomorrow morning will once again see minimums down into the low-mid 40s interior areas, with a few spots in the Big Bend and Suwanee River Valley possibly seeing upper 30s if the winds get calm.

Tallahassee officailly recorded 37 degrees as the mprning low and Crestview was 36. The winds were calm long enough at those locales for a bit of radiational cooling and cold air drainage to take its effect. They may have seen frost in those areas this morning as well.

Currently 44.3 degrees at 7:10 a.m. Calm conditions. May see another degree drop this hour before the sun comes up.

Today will be the last day of this nice early season cool spell as the High Pressure area that bought down the cool weather moves east and off the Atlantic seaboard by Monday. This wll quickly moderate temps and we will see temps near 80 to the lower 80s by mid week.

Any idea or indications of when we could see our first big cold front here in S. FL? I remember last year at this same exact time we saw our first big cold front, of course that was in the wake of Sandy.

Overall most forecasters are predicting that it will be a slightly warmer than average winter here in S. FL.

:uarrow: Not looking too good for S FL over the next couple of weeks for the real cool wx to make it that far south with the way the NAO & AO has been positive and forecasted to stay positive.
With this pattern set up even when it makes it to central FL it only lasts about a day or so before the winds start switching off the Atlantic right away.

Big pressure gradient between the big 1039mb high pressure in NE US and lower pressures in the Caribbean is pushing in 10 foot waves into the FL east coast.
Unfortunately beach erosion is happening at high tides, the erosion that did not happened in the heart of the hurricane season.
As high pressure starts pushing east towards the Atlantic during the next couple of days winds & waves should start relaxing by then.

Here you go, they are pretty cool, high definition and up to date most times.
In some you can go back in time to view images during the day.

It's gotten less humid, but not necessarily "cooler". Ugh, I hate living here sometimes. Want to live in TN or GA where there's four seasons.
