What a monster! I hope everyone who are in it's direct path is prepared. This typhoon has been on the news the past couple of days so at least people are aware that something massive is coming....

Has to be below 910 mbar now. Most astounding early morning visible of 2013 in my opinion.

It may even be stronger with all that data. T7.7 supports about 165 kt.

I agree. But I think JTWC may leave it at 150 knots for the next advisory, and if anything, drop the pressure slightly, since anything above this would be an extreme anomaly for an official bulletin. What is everyone else's opinion on intensity?

a good estimate is 155 KT and it may peak even higher since the EWRC has finished

Bopha was about the same as this

This is predicted to be 895 hPa and 230 km/hr before landfall by the RSMC - Japan Meteorological Agency.

Other than that, this looks way more impressive than Bopha, though Bopha was also impressive. This is also scarier because it is hitting major cities in the Visayas: Cebu, Ormoc, Iloilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Tagbilaran, Tacloban and so on.

I'd personally have it at 155 kt, given the CIMSS T7.2 (might still be conservative) that has it a bit lower. Take that out and I would go 160-165 kt.

It's already raining here in our place. If that shift to the south continues, I think we'll REALLY feel this one. Oh God.

Anyway, I was wondering why we are only under Signal #1.. weird PAGASA.. weird.....

Haiyan really looks like STY Mike, but this has a bigger CDO and eyewall. I'm guessing of the same landfall spots at stronger intensities.

The bigger number signals will come soon. Signal #4 will likely come as it gets closer. At what level does the region basically go into lockdown - signal #2?

LOL with the lockdown. but anyway the strongest warning signal that PAGASA raises is Signal #4.. and it is a very rare signal.. and I think they would use it now. :double:
