Wild crazy. We may be witnessing one of the strongest storms we will ever see. It's definitely up there with Megi and dvorak loops is approaching STY Gay levels. Such beauty yet about to hit an area that has been devastated by a major quake...truly sobering.

Forecast track from PAGASA not available yet.

I must say this is the first time I saw the highest storm warning signal in the Philippines hoisted over a large portion of the country. Roughly 9 provinces under Signal number 4.

He needs to get out of there now! This thing is basically a lage version of the Joplin tornado! Would he drive into that?[/quote]

The thing I worry is the capacity of the soil in that area to receive tremendous amount of rainfall. Samar-Leyte area have a history of deadly flashfloods and landslides. I've also heard claims that the geohazard map in the area is not updated, so there may be one place (or more) in Leyte and Samar which many believe is safe but actually isn't. James and his team must be ready for the worst.

I agree He should get out of there! He doesn't need to become a Tim Samaras version of WPAC... this storm is no ordinary cat 5

I take back what I've said in my previous post..It is not a bright side experiencing this first hand.. :crying:

It's eerily calm here right now in our area. It's like there's no supertyphoon coming.

Oh God please spare us from great danger. :(

So scary. Most models make this move southwest towards Cebu after Leyte. CYCLOCANE source

It will pass north of Cebu City! However, typhoon force gusts are quite likely

If only there was Recon in there! It's a pretty large storm but at low latitudes so Tip's pressure is probably safe for now, but I would say 170 kt for the intensity given all the data.

If that 862mb is accurate (although it is probably way too low given the low latitude - my guess is about 894mb), Tip wouldn't just have been beaten, it would have been crushed.
