Re: WPAC: HAIYAN - Typhoon- 18z Best Track at 170kts
This is almost like being in a massive EF 4/5 tornado that lasts several hours, some places could be completely decimated.

wont be decimated. There simply wont be a trace of the worst affected areas
Guiuan may be ground zero

This is still extremely shocking by JTWC standard, their forecasters must have being in a mind of being impressed
I doubt any agency would go beyond a T8.0 level though without surface or Recon to prove it though. Even if Recon went in and found an SFMR reading of, say, 200 kt, would they be willing to go that high just for fear of having a heart attack writing the advisory?

the wind gusts are now in Joplin tornado territory
yeah where that northern eyewall comes it would likely flatten large portions of the forest...

If this was at a higher latitude, at this wind speed, it may have been the strongest tropical cyclone ever recorded (pressure may have been below 870 mbar). Can this make it to 200 mph? AND COINCIDE WITH SUNRISE AND FIRST VISIBLES? Might be the most stunning first visibles ever.

Here is a link to the weather station at Guiuan Airport. (I couldn't find an official source but this is a feed of the airport reading)
http://www.weatherhq.com/weather-station/guiuan
We'll watch it until it stops reporting I guess.

Jim Edds @ExtremeStorms 1min
Like I said earlier, i was scared at 145 mph - Hurricane Charley 2004. Typhoon Hainyan at 195 mph? Time to dig a hole fast!
James Reynolds is there too.

When might this make landfall? Will we get first visibles before it does so?

Looks like the ring of convection surrounding the eye grew in size in the last 3-4 hours.

If there was such a thing as a Category 6, this would definitely be it.

Amazing. Nothing about this cyclone isn't shocking. Too bad it might already be over land by the time we get visibles. Again, may the Lord be with these people.
