I'm retiring for the evening. Our local mets seem pretty sure about an event starting in a couple of hours (at least as of a couple of hours ago), but I just don't see where the moisture is going to come from. The bands are well out to our west and northwest, and the next surge doesn't seem to want to release from the mountains of northern Mexico.

Time will tell, but something tells me Lucy has got her hands on the football again for those of us in South Central Texas.

Everyone, please be safe.

Cheers,
Cameron

DFW Airport dropped from 32 to 28 in one hour, definitely not a coincidence, trend continues. (Ftw/Alliance & Denton back down to 25)

Conditions here by the big Airport has indeed deteriorated since midnight. Moderate to heavy sleet has fallen since midnight and it is sticking on the roads even more than the grass. Everything is coated in a solid sheet of Sleet/ICE. It's a winter wonderland outside. Some pictures but once the Sun comes up, it will be quite a view.

I just drove from my house in Garland to SMU... The thermometer in my vehicle read a steady 32F throughout the trip and I did not encounter a single patch of ice on the road surfaces (traveled down Northwest Hwy). However, I did see many trees sagging under the weight of the ice. Also, P-type changed over from freezing rain to all sleet by the time I arrived on campus (approximately 2am).
The temperature reading on the campus weather station has dropped from 31.1 to 29.9 in less than 15 minutes since I arrived.

73,000 now without power in DFW and rising. More ice to come along with gusty north winds. This will continue to snap tree limbs sending them hurtling into power lines. Stay put if you can, and let TXDOT do their job...bless them each and every one!

We have finally transitioned to THUNDERSLEET here in the holler. A totally different sound than the driving rain.

Just looked out side a couple of windows and we have a 2, 3 maybe even 4 inches of snow/sleet! :cold:
I can't tell of sure yet but if this is true than this is why my area is spared at this time from power outages.

I would have reported a few more times during the evening, but I experienced some food poisoning! Yuck!

Just woke up, and seems like Midlothian has about 1/4 to 1/2 of ice outside my window. Heavy sleet at the moment. Everything is glazed in solid ice.

The forecast was nailed by the local mets and NOAA in my opinion. Good job.

Its crazy how much backbuilding/redeveloping/training I'm seeing with this tonight.. Similar to the "Snowmaggeden" in 2011..

In Collin County(directly north of dallas), where alot of the power outages are coming from(30k in collin county alone), the CC airport is reporting 28mph winds  , just a dangerous situation to be atm

Pardon me for the vague post but aomething is falling out of the sky here in Austin, guessing very light drizzle. Since the temp is 32 I'll say frz drizzle. Don't want to freak my friends out and walk outside though but those light radar echoes are producing something.

Heavy sleet falling and has been for a while according to the parking lot. Temp dropped from 34 to 28 in a couple of hours. Radar returns looking very impressive to add to the accumulations here at 75 and nw hwy. power is still on

Ok i went out to my car for my phone charger and it is a really heavy mist right now. Everything is very wet from it of course, almost like a rain and my car had frozen spots on it. Almost like it was below freezing and now its not, or the really heavy mist just started and its beginning to freeze. Either way its definitely wet enough now that if it were to freeze, look out. The mist is heavy enough that i can hear from inside the Apt.

Again, im near south Austin right now, not in Sugar Land at the moment.

Edit: Also seeing a new batch of moisture in Mexico ready to make a move into the state. Going to be a long weekend if this ice keeps up

Power went off here in the Lower Greenville area about 1:15 or so, but miraculously came back on 30 minutes later -- not sure how long my luck's going to hold on that, but I'm grateful for the few extra hours. Moderate sleet still coming down and I can hear transformers blowing nearby.

The temperature here in University Park had dropped to 28, but it has now risen to 30 with moderate/heavy sleet. The ground is covered, but remains slushy. The saving grace so far (at least for street conditions) is that we haven't dropped into the mid 20's as forecast... If that happens, it will become extremely treacherous. As far as trees, power lines, etc... we are in bad shape. I've seen several transformers in the surrounding neighborhoods take the hit this morning.
