South of due west

#1 Postby cycloneye » Thu Sep 11, 2003 10:00 pm

Last 2 hours I haved see in the frames a south of due west motion 270 but this may be temporary but it may be important down the road in terms of the models and their tracks.

Luis, I agree 100% and posted an IR-4 channel loop in the 11 pm advisory thread. Also Isabel may be getting ready to undergo another eyewall replacement cycle ... looking at the latest SSMI pass ... (double eyewall structure)

Luis, this is exactly what I was referring to this afternoon with my post asking if the QScat was sending a message. It appeared to me then that a change in motion was taking place to the left. It was.

I'm trying to figure this out. Does "the left refer to south?" Like: wobble to the left, left of the guidance etc.

Sorry, but it's just a wobble.

Check the last 2 frames.

It just jumped back N.

Also, the general mass of clouds has started "pointing" more NW. Often signals a turn...

Still heading W to WNW on avg.

Exactly. Relatave to a given track. Say it's heading due north...a track to the NW would be "left" and a track to the east would be "right".

Last frame it has gone due west but these steps south of west may prove important later as the track may be a bit more south from what the models are saying again if these wobbles south continue.

Except that in the last 2 frames it didn't go due W, it jumped back NW, then W, erasing any S movement over the previous 6 hours.

If you blow up the pics and check the coordinates of the center of the eye, and compare to 6 hours ago, you'll see it hasn't moved S.

Any change in direction, however minor or brief can change what direction Isabel tracks. IMHO we all need to watch this storm. I really don't think it will get into the GOM but do admit there is an outside chance of this. How many times have ee all watched the modles and observed them changing big time over just a few hours time. I know I have been in evac mode to the hospital to work and for safety just to see a hurricane make a last minute change and miss us (thank God) completely. I live watchiing the modles and track all storms. I don't know a lot about stering forces, etc. but can see with my own eyes what happens. How many times has a storm done things it was never predcicted to do? So we watch and wait and hope for the best--prepare for the worst.
