NWS graphic for low temps across the state tonight. With the winds turning to the NNE along the Southeast Coast of Florida later tonight, that will bring in some warmer air off the Gulf stream current (78F-80F) which is why lows across SE Florida area a good 10F+ higher tonight than last night and much warmer than the rest of the state:

Just looked at both the Melbourne and Tampa Bay NWS offices for today's official temps with no records broken this morning from Tampa to Orlando to Daytona on southward. We really lucked out like I mentioned before but not surprised, models for the past few days were showing cloud cover and the MOS guidance did not take that into effect.

Well the NWS in Miami originally predicted a low of 55°F here in Palm Beach Gardens, FL but has since dropped it to 47°F which is about how cold it ended up getting last night. The current temp. Is 51°F. Even with the cloud cover and isolated showers here and there the forecast is trending colder! Also the wind is still coming out of the NW to NNW direction and isn't as strong as last night.

Re: Florida Weather
Wow what a really cold day we had here in South FL! I was all day down in West Miami, where the temp never made it above 58 degrees on my car thermometer. When I left there about 7 pm it was raining with a temp of 54. As soon as I got back to my home in West Broward near Sawgrass the temp dipped into the high 40s with a steady drizzle. Now its still drizzling on and off with a whopping 43 degrees!! (currently my actual outdoor thermometer reads 42.8, while the car says 46) You can easily see your breath out here, and with winds still out of the north-northwest still I wonder how low could it go. imagine if it were just 10 degrees cooler...we'd be seeing snow.

Re: Florida Weather
The weather was great yesterday. It only got to about 59 at the highest and was mostly cloudy for the day, then it started to sprinkle around 4 PM. Too bad 80 degree temps and sunshine are on their way back in a couple of days.
I'll miss you cold temperature and cloudy skies...

A mid-level low has developed through the afternoon and evening over the Treasure Coast and Palm Beach County causing rainfall amounts of 8-10in. across these areas with even higher amounts in isolated locations! Most of this occurred along the coastal and metro areas of the Palm Beaches and the Treasure Coast. Flooding has been occurring all throughout these areas since as early as midday/early afternoon. What a dry season this has been!

Not even as bad at my house than about 4 miles away at Gateway and Military. It was already flooded when we were there 3 hours ago and radar looks like it hasn't stopped yet. 95 closed in both directions from Hypoluxo to Gateway. 17 inches at a sensor in Boynton. Unreal.
And then dry where you live....

Re: Florida Weather
Before i left last night. I checked the radar to see if the rain was finally letting up here in Ft. Lauderdale. Saw the red glob over palm beach but finally dry down here. Came back later and saw the same red convection over the same area of east palm beach. I said WOW that got to be flooding up there. Wow a foot in some areas. Cant forecast something that strange.

None of these phenomenal rainfall totals (arguably worse than what you would see from a tropical system) were forecasted at all. Just shows how difficult it is to predict these kind of things in advance.
I know several people who cannot get to work this morning because the roads are impassible.

I had to traverse into ground zero yesterday for work. Wish I had turned around and went home.

Crazy rainfall totals down there! I remember watching the news yesterday evening with one of the local TV Mets showing that cell that started near Stuart moving southward right along the coast, I went to bed with no idea that the disturbance continued through at least 3 AM!
Here is a radar loop between 10 PM and 2 AM, those showers didn't move at all, there was some serious convergence going on that those cells kept on for so long over the same spot, wow.

Re: Florida Weather
20+ inches of rain is incredible. You'd be hard pressed to get that out of most hurricanes. And in January? I was watching that cell on radar much of the night. Seemed to be traveling south but then just parked around the Delray/Boynton area.
As difficult as that must have been, at least SFL is well equipped to handle that kind of rainfall by comparison to most other places. 20+ inches in just a few hours, in most parts of the world, would cause major loss of life.

Re: Florida Weather
Unbelievable!
I can't believe Palm Beach got hit that hard and not a drop of rain has fallen here in Broward County! I've noticed through the years that Palm Beach county often gets this sort of "training" rainstorms during the so called Dry Season. We had our fair share of rain in Broward on Wednesday though!

Re: Florida Weather
Whats really mind boggling is that Delray Bch received 12 1/2" of rain and I'm 6 miles south in Boca Raton and the streets were completely dry. Not even a drop on the windshield,it was like a wall was put up to block the rain.
