Ugh, now it appears our wild card Strat Warming Event isn't forecasted to make much progress poleward over the next few weeks either....

15-day Euro ensembles are in. Nothing significant for Texas next 2 weeks. Maybe a bit of rain for north Texas early Saturday and again early next week. A little cold air around day 10 but the upper low is NE of Hudson Bay and moving rapidly eastward. No deep plunge of Arctic air.
You see? Do you people see what I'm up against year after year?!
It may be time to go to Mother Nature and ask her to intercede. For those of you who know the plot line in "The Year Without A Santa Claus" -- you'll get my reference.

It's quite common to have a "January thaw" following a very cold late December/early January. I'll enjoy it while it lasts. Typically, February is our snowiest month in Texas. Of course, I can dream of a February like 1986...

Dadgummit. I will not fall victim to your Summerlike conditions. I will strike for good young sir. Please oh please weather gods, no February 1986. I was burning up. Sheesh. I remembering running my A/C that February in the car. He is right though. February, such as it is, is our snowiest month. I would also love a spring like 2013 as well. Thank you.

We have your back young Porta. Do not worry. The force maybe strong with the Dark Lord of Summer, but we have the short days on our side. We shall overcome.

You know..there was once this one lad...who called for the Hurricane Season of 2008 over in August. Unfortunately, a hurricane by the name of Ike came and called on the Houston-Galveston-Beaumont area. I would hesitate before calling winter over.

Goodness gracious you look away for a few hours and the annual mid January winter cancel posts rains down! Come on guys, even the fab winter of 77-78 saw 70s and almost 80 degrees in January for Dallas! What about January 85? Between the cold blasts it was balmy 60s! This is ridiculous, a cold winter is right before your eyes (numbers say so)! Where is all this cancel enthusiasm in July???

I still stand by my post this morning, week of the 15th the AO is going negative, the NAO is going negative, the EPO is going negative (after the current positive and thaw), and the PNA is rising from negative that in no sense says a warm pattern I'm sorry it just doesn't. We'll see.

The "January thaw" gives way to a "February freeze".

Winter is not over and honestly we haven't seen a real warm up. We were still below average today in Austin though tomorrow looks like we will get into the low 60s. I'm pretty sure we will see another really cold spell sometime over the next 30 days.
What I'm more excited about is the rain that we are getting through Friday. Maybe a couple of thunderstorms Friday afternoon.

Well I just checked in at the gardening forum weather thread and there your fellow Americans are praying you fellows don't get your way!!!
They've been posting pictures like mad of *their unwanted blessings* and they sure aren't pleased. I did note however there is quite the snowpack down there.
The lady from California though would happily take any and all snow at this point...she's been posting a number of links to stories regarding the historic drought in California.

It's good to see that activity in this thread has quieted down so much. I have my hand on the Texas thermostat and I'm cranking it up! Perhaps I should start the Texas Summer thread so we can start posting our thoughts on how many times the temperature will rise above 100F? Looking forward to a couple of long bike rides this weekend.

Wow. If this weekend's (projected) weather is your idea of "cranking it up", then please start "cranking it up" again sometime in mid-July.
