Interesting bit from JB....

"The most impressive argument, though, for the landfall event is the pattern. The remnants of TD 14 behind Isabel are establishing a trof to the east of the storm; the classic look for a major East Coast hurricane. This prevents height rise from in back of the storm to force the stream flow too much from the south and southwest. The strongest deviations from average are in the Newfoundland wheel position, and if one corrects the error of the models, one argues even farther west in the end. So again, the bell tolls louder, but it is still far enough away so that I can't say for sure when and where. My suspicions lie in the Carolinas northward to New England."

My wife and I are planning to go to Ocean City, MD next Saturday (9/20). We may be getting up and close and personal with Isabel if we go! :o

Interesting... how are the waters (in terms of SST's) along the DE up into Jersey shore?

Remember, water temperature tend not to matter, because hurricanes that move parallel to the United States east coast accelerate, thus they don't spend much time over the water.

upper 60s off DE/NJ
low 70s off OC md
mid 70s off VAbeach
80 and up NCar

That would mean at a northward speed of 20 mph, NJ/DE is less than 10 hours (cane speed) from 80 degree water.
