We don't care about the size of the snowman lol-cause in a state the size of Texas-everything appears smaller.

Radar shows a mix here, but I'm not seeing it. When do yall think I will start to see some frozen precip here?

i think its going to change soon. We're at 34.9 at the moment, but just to the west and up near Bryan, the temp is 32. The freezing line is closing in.

I don't think surface temps matter as much as the column of air over yalls head. We were getting snow here in Jacksonville while it was still 36.

Look at the SPC chart. There is a small circle in west texas, its not a low pressure but 'lower pressure. This a good thing? More moisture?

I'm worried about the lack of moisture out west...I hope I'm wrong and it's there just not showing up yet. But those dew points are mighty low farther north.

freezing rain/sleet is also forecast. however all we're getting is liquid rain. In this case surface temp would matter.

I think you guys are fine, you will likely get a good dose of it. there will be much backbuilding later tonight for you and heaviest qpf is still yet to come for your region. I mentioned earlier models did show slowing of 850mb 0c line in SE TX thus it has but areas north of I-10 should switch over to snow by then IMO. Your main show is still to come overnight.

What time do you think the changeover may occur? You think we could see a few good hours of moderate snow/sleet around midnight?

Yeah we need the 850 to move south more, this should provide a bit more lift too. Still a ways from SE Tx

Probably within the next 3 hours to snow, well before the convective stuff hits. I think you guys in CLL will end up with 1-3", while some areas just to your east may end up 2-4.

Here in Jacksonville, we had a mist around 2pm. I heard ice pellets hitting the window around 3pm. When I stepped outside at 5pm, it was snowing pretty good given our neck of the woods. Once we had the ice pellets, I imagine an hour or so later it had turned over to snow.

Wow I hope you're right! So you think the convective bands will hit after midnight and give us a few inches then?

And for those that can't build 3" snowmen  here's something else to do (I'm sure some of you will be in the cold :cold: zone:
o matter how young or old you are, making bubbles with soapy water is always fun. But what happens if you make these bubbles in the winter? Note that this experiment requires an outdoor temperature below -15oC.
Why?

Why not simply mix water and soap? Because the solution isn’t thick enough to produce good surface tension. It is surface tension that allows the solution to form a bubble.
Materials

soapy water in a bottle
To make soapy water that will produce nice, solid bubbles, combine:
125 ml liquid dish soap
125 ml corn syrup :larrow: important ingredient for winter bubbles
750 ml hot water
Mix and let cool.
bubble wand

Method

Dress warmly.
Head outside  with your bubble mixture and wand.
To produce bubbles, dip the bubble wand in the soapy water, to cover it with a thin film of liquid, then wave the wand slowly.
Try to catch bubbles with the bubble wand.

Then take pics of either the frozen bubble (or a snowman outline  on your car's hood)

Latest HRRR (RUC) -- 22z -- still looks good for you, buddy. Still showing 1-2 inches. Keep the faith!
