More cold a coming and an active southern stream thanks to split flow in the Pacific. Beware you may get more than you can handle, the models are playing catch up and the pattern may unleash its will upon wxman57's resistance.
My goal was 50 pages this week and we are almost there to keep pace with the season total of 477 in 09-10. The worst is yet to come, JB has been harping about the Texas power grid being strained and it may happen if we get more of these blasts.

27 in Baton Rouge with freezing drizzle. That is a horrible temp to have freezing drizzle as it really causes quick problems on the roadways. Thank goodness the precip is light. Now I wonder if we will get above freezing today.
Much of I-10 is closed including ALL ways of crossing the MS River.

Well I will see what I can do to help reach that Ntwx. Nws has extended our winter advisory til 6 this evening and are now forecast to get sleet the rest of the day with a high barely above freezing. What change from last night. Cant post but did here some rumors of the 6z gfs giving south LA another round of winter precip Wednesday with a weak gulf low? Saw last night the cmc went nuts giving everybody from mexico to north carolina snow in the same timeframe. Forecast doesn't sow anything right now but it didn't show this current episode either til the day of. Had been carrying only a 20% chance of mix all week til yesterday morning, even then was still being downplayed.

Bad news out of SWLA
She says at least two fatalities
Fiance` of a Calcasieu Sheriff Deupity wrote:I don't know about official closures but they're urging everyone to stay off the roads unless you're emergency services. My (sheriff) fiancé just texted me and told me I was not allowed to leave the house today (no, he doesn't expect me to be making him a sandwich). But there have been a couple of fatalities this morning and even the emergency crews (salt trucks) are having a lot of trouble.

I have been watching closely the chance for more winter weather. GFS has shown it more than once and CMC as well, like you said. If the Euro starts hinting then we all better watch out. SELA has definitely over performed with this system, most models called for us to get nothing right up to the event starting. Goes to show how hard winter weather forecasting is in the deep south.

The 06Z GFS has that disturbance and another winter weather event for the Southern half of Texas into Louisiana Tuesday night into early Wednesday.

Mostly snow ravyrn? Looks beautiful. Wish we could have gotten in on that instead of this nasty freezing rain. No pics but my trucks are coated in a thin sheet of ice this morning. Haven't made it out to see if its collecting on power lines or trees yet.

More DeRidder, LA shots

I'd love to find some photos from the Toledo Bend area.

I didn't make out as good as those photos. I just got a very light dusting in Jacksonville, TX. These are photos from friends back where I was raised in DeRidder, LA. They must've made out pretty good overnight as they were all asking me when it was going to change over from rain/sleet around 9pm. I told them to goto bed and just wake up to a nice surprise. I'm glad I was right

The 384 hour GFS shows snow for almost ALL of Texas, including Brownsville and almost all of LA. Good thing we can bank on that. haha
I don't see much for Tue/Wed when I look at the snow map. A little blip in southern Louisiana and then on to FL. I suppose that is a sign of the possibility, though.

Which areas exactly? I looked at meteograms for a few locations in LA and here in ETX, but I didn't see any moisture. Is it hugging the coast?

Well its currently 34 with a very light mist at my back yard..
Looking toward the next cold shot it looks like early to mid week we might see some colder temperatures for much of Texas.

Yeah I saw that on a few meteograms I made for SWLA/ETX. I didn't see much moisture, however, the models didn't show much leading into our current event. We got a nice dusting here in Jacksonville and everything is white in DeRidder, LA, so maybe we'll have more moisture than the models are currently forecasting.

I didn't see any precip in the cold air across TX next Tuesday either (6z gfs). Of course, things can change as the event draws closer.
We've cancelled our drive to Baton Rouge and are heading to New Orleans to try to fly home today.

Safe travels and good luck on getting home! It would seem the PWC has taken advantage of your weather machine in your absence!!

Just hit 10 degrees in Denison. I'm glad Wxman57 doesn't see any really cold air until maybe the second week of February!
