NHC director Max Mayfield: I'm getting my hurricane supplies

#1 Postby rob8303 » Fri Sep 12, 2003 12:56 pm

But Hurricane Center chief Max Mayfield told CBS News he's going to spend the weekend checking his hurricane supplies.

"There's some hurricane amnesia out there. People just forget what a real major hurricane can do, and there are a lot of people who are not prepared," Mayfield said.

Very telling and scary :o

It seems kind of funny that Max Mayfield would say he is going to spend his weekend getting hurricane supplies. If Isabel decides to come in his direction he will probably be in the safest place I can think of. Inside the fortress that is the National Hurricane Center. At least that is where I would expect him to be...

After all the hype and screaming that people should have been prepared from June 1... it's kinda funny and ironic that the chief of all things Cane-like is openly admiting to not taking the precautions that the NHC suggested of all the potentially affected populace.

Well DUH george.... It's either hype or a mistake to admit LOL. Admitedly hype that people will listen to

"HEY did you hear the CHIEF of NHC is out getting hurricane supplies? We should too!"

Nah. He's been prepared. He was probably wearing a Home Depot shirt when he said that.

And he's from Miami, right? I think it's just hype - their reports are suggesting more of NW or NWN heading - so that would eliminate south Florida, yes?

He might be in the safest place to be during a hurricane (haven't seen it myself, so I'm not sure). But he'd still want to be sure he has everything for AFTER landfall, for those weeks without electricity, running water, AC, etc.

"Checking" his supplies is a bit different than "buying" his supplies also. I'm sure he's got 'em already.
