I just made the drive from Houston to Greenspoint. Very little traffic and roads are fine now, but my thermometer was at 30 and all the cars here are forming ice. Looked like they may have been shutting down a ramp on the Beltway 8 - I45 exchange.

I see that disturbance coming out of New Mexico as well and it intrigued me. But water vapor will show you we have a dry slot rolling in shortly which will shut off the precip. I don't think we're going to see anything else precip wise in the Austin area.

I have a trace of snow, but it hasn't accumulated further since I woke up this morning, and in fact looks to be slowly disappearing.

I would not. I really would not. You do not where the ice is or not. Be safe. Work from home.

I do know on another forum that srainhoutx wrote, "Water Vapor/IR Imagery suggests the upper low has turned more to the E and may head toward S Central Texas before the precip comes to an end", but I know exactly what significance that has.

To put some perspective on today's event in the Austin area as compared to Friday's event ... APD just now reports 155 crashes in just four hours. Last Friday we had a little over 200 crashes in about 24 hours.

Just got a message from Plugerville schools, because of worsening road conditions classes are cancelled for the day.

Wow! Just caught up on all the pages. Got some much needed sleep overnight and I put my phone down on page 280. Nearing 300. Well, I can tell you I am very excited about February. If the month pans out, 477 pages should be beat. Congrats to our southern Storm2k'ers on another round of winter. Hope all remain safe and dreams of snow remain strong. Feb could do it. :cold: :froze:

I can't work from home, if I don't go, it's a sick day, and I don't get sick days.

Basically, I don't think I'd lose my job, I really don't, but it'd be a huge pain in the ass if I don't come in.

As for the conditions where I live, we're looking like it's clearing out on Radar, looks like it's over for us. A trace of snow on the rooftops, and cartops. I'll call that a win.

It should be noted I live in Huntsville, not The Woodlands, but I work in The Woodlands.

Yeah, so much for the "bust" talk. Y'all are probably going to get one nasty ice storm. Be safe!

Yeah, all those that were screaming bust are awfully quiet now.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with these statements. Temps are borderline freezing and are forecast to rise into the mid and upper 30's late morning into the afternoon. The HGX office is backpeddling....Considering a winter storm warning was orginally issued then downgraded to an advisory, this is not what the HGX originally had in their forecast...IMO by definition is a bust for Houston Metro. Might be a different story for those north and east but for Houston Metro, it appears like shutting down of the city was a bit premature to say the least. Now Austin is a different story, temps are much much colder out there

Teamplayersblue - 'amateur hour' seems a little harsh, they are doing their jobs now and not getting caught up in all the "hype" of this event. By all reports, Houston Metro's streets are wet, not freezing and temps are forecasted to rise

I was very surprised when I went to bed last night that P'ville ISD hadn't even delayed opening. We live in Austin in PISD and even before I went to sleep there was icy rain/sleet falling, the cars were covered in ice and it was 30f. I was even more surprised when I woke up this morning and still no delay.

I was outside a little bit ago and while I didn't see any accumulation on our north facing patio, there was a glaze of ice on the cars and roofs as far as I can see. If there is ice on the fence I couldn't see it from the patio. It seems that even though I could hear sleet last night, there was more freezing rain than sleet because I see no sleet at all just ice. I didn't see ice on the street (from the house) but I didn't walk out there in case there was black ice on the walkway and driveway. It seems like the perfect setup for black ice.

I've been hearing sirens every few minutes from firetrucks I guess going to accidents in the area.

26f and still overcast here.

Sheesh. So just as it's getting worse they are sending all the kids home that managed to make it in? I thought it was supposed to warm up after noon?

I was digging deep last night through countless maps and reanalyis and let me tell you, one year stuck out like a sore thumb at the surface and above. Almost fell off my chair looking at it. I'm not going to say because it is considered taboo but the hint is, wxman57 knows his weather history.

Heavy sleet here over a sheet of glaze. A lot of commuters went to work before it fell below freezing, so it's probably going to be a real mess here today.

Extended DFW 06Z GFS looks interesting. It'll probably blowtorch at 12Z.

My mouth is watering just thinking about it. You mentioned in an earlier post that snow is an addiction. I confess.

Couple of flakes mixing-in with the sleet. Literally a couple - I counted two.
