Yea unfortunately I think what we get now will be the end of it. Currently just light rain in Sugar Land. Doesn't look like we will see any frozen precip as the temp is still above freezing here.

I have a trace of snow, but it hasn't accumulated further since I woke up this morning, and in fact looks to be slowly disappearing.

Still debating whether to do my 40 mile commute into the northern suburbs of Houston, roads look good now, but in a few hours that could be very different as I don't know the conditions south of me.

I would not. I really would not. You do not where the ice is or not. Be safe. Work from home.

I can't work from home, if I don't go, it's a sick day, and I don't get sick days.

Basically, I don't think I'd lose my job, I really don't, but it'd be a huge pain in the ass if I don't come in.

As for the conditions where I live, we're looking like it's clearing out on Radar, looks like it's over for us. A trace of snow on the rooftops, and cartops. I'll call that a win.

It should be noted I live in Huntsville, not The Woodlands, but I work in The Woodlands.

And this is one of my biggest issues with going against what most all model guidance has been showing.....decisions made prematurely can cause people money, productivity and sometimes their jobs. I understand the safety aspect but this was a borderline event and telling people to use caution when driving is much more reasonbale then telling people to stay off the roads entirely....the Austin NWS office should have gone that route, not Houston.

Rant over, lets get back to analyzing what appears to be the most promsing winter weather setup since Feb 2010

forecast...IMO by definition is a bust for Houston Metro. Might be a different story for those north and east but for Houston Metro, it appears like shutting down of the city was a bit premature to say the least. Now Austin is a different story, temps are much much colder out there

Well, the (just saying) freezing rain/sleet line is moving through Houston now. The roads are starting to deteriorate as we speak. There are wrecks in Houston. Closing down Houston was a good call in my opinion. Now Rice University is on a delay, but all other schools and colleges are closed. The traffic is dead. As we speak, it is sleeting heavily outside my house in Humble ( a burb 17 miles north of Houston). We can agree to disagree on this one. You have years of meteorological wisdom over me.

Then I would proceed carefully. I would drive at 35 mph. Stay in the grooves on the road. I would brake 500-700 feet before stops. I would leave at least an hour before work. It is sleeting heavily in the Woodlands as we speak.

How do you know they were a couple and not just two strangers passing by? :cheesy:

Extended DFW 06Z GFS looks interesting. It'll probably blowtorch at 12Z.

whoa! Interested to see if that hangs on.

FW discussion had a blurb about model inconsistency and pattern changes heading into Feb. Things seem to be getting more fluid for sure... hopefully this bone dry pattern will loosen soon.

Do you really think if that moisture out in W Texas makes it here this afternoon, we could see some frozen precip?

12zGFS has a bulls eye of 3-4 inches of Snow just north of my area from midnight to 6am Wednesday  Looking at the precip types on the GFS is mostly Sleet mix in with a little bit of Snow.

That looks good. It seems to me that next week might be more like weather in late November for North Texas. We might get severe storms first and then a possible winter storm after that.
