ESRL forecast for epo and wpo has been about as bad as NOAA's winter forecast. ALL models tank the WPO. How's that neutral to positive EPO doing?

Woah, woah, woah  Just something to throw out there. Mentioned in earlier posts (as have you) that these forecasts haven't exactly had the best record this winter. Even if the WPO was neutral/positive, it wouldn't mean no ball game!

Big O? Rgv20? How did things shake out for y'all?

Had some light Sleet that started around midnight but no accumulations (temperatures were in the 36-35 range), had a few ice pellets in the car this morning tho. Around 3AM the Rain was coming down at a pretty good clip for a good 15 minutes with a temperature at 33F.

The area from McAllen east to Harlingen were the big winners with Freezing Rain/Sleet http://my5.krgv.com/gallery/2733

Not picking on you I promise :). I am just appalled at Noaa this year for their half-assed work. It's unbelievable that they are pulling stuff that seemingly is from nowhere with no support whatsoever. These are the big boys, high tax dollar salaries.

Bust. Some sleet and freezing rain. Wasn't cold enough when the precipitation moved through. Bummer.

Regardless of our 'more-minor' weekend system (could see winter precip across far NWTX)...

I think that it is important to note that literally ALL global models have several systems 'plaguing the Plains' over the next 7 - 10 days. As Ntxw has mentioned, the fine details will work themselves out. BUT, it appears that a large storm(s) with a huge area, and spread, of impacts will affect most of the state in some form or fashion late Monday, through Wednesday, of next week.

I was looking at the 6z and it seems we are at the time where thr GFS loses the cold temperatures. The 925 and 850k were both still below freezing.

Here is what happens when one underestimates or blows off icy roads when one is "in a hurry."

Looks like Hawaii wanted to get in on the fun and not be left out

http://www.prh.noaa.gov/pr/hnl/

Not sure how common or rare that is. I realize it's elevation but still neat to see a WSW.

It's common on Mauna Kea.

A little info http://www.hawaiiinfoguide.com/hawaii_skiing.htm

Probably the only other place other than Southern California where you can go snow skiing in the morning and go surfing (in normal attire) in the afternoon

Corpus didn't get much out of his last ice/sleet/snow event other than some isolated sleet here and there. I don't think my temp even went below freezing on my thermometer. Some of the areas to the south of us did along with the RGV as they appeared to be the big winners. It sounds like the opportunities are there possibly for more coming down the road. Heck, I'm just happy to have the cold winter after last year's dud. However as we get deeper into the high school baseball season, I would like it to warm up significantly by Spring Break. Nothing is more torturous than sitting through a baseball game in cold weather. Football is fine, but baseball..... NO!

The 12z Euro is a little more reasonable.

It still depicts snowfall for much of Texas, but these events are still a long way off and I'm really not expecting anything to happen or to not happen at this point.

Yeah, way, way far out. We (Humble) are on the very edge of that southern snow.

Well that dry slot/dry hole or whatever you want to call it encompassing North Texas kind of stinks. hope that forecast doesn't verify...

Yeah, but we really shouldn't be worried over totals right now. The mot important thing is whether or not the models are still trending cold and how strong they think the low will be. The Euro is trending the way we need it right now. Total accumulation won't even be semi-accurate until Saturday or Sunday. Let's give the model time to truly inspect the low pressure before we start panicking.

Yeah I've been reading Ryan's twitter feeds a lot recently and its the best for all this crazyness. That type of model run image showed up before and this is the 2nd time (or more) showing such insanity for parts of NA.

Then just don't do it then.

And you could hear a pin drop  . Very quiet now in this thread lol.
