The latest minimum central pressure from recon is 920 millibars. The satellite estimates were definitely well in line with the recon information. Intensity remains the same.
To put this in perspective a 920 millibar pressure will equate to the current 160 mph sustained winds. With hugo the pressure was 918 millibars with 160 mph maximum sustained winds. Hurricane Gilbert had the lowest pressure recorded in a hurricane in the western hemisphere at 888 millibars. So while 920 millibars is very low at cat 5 criteria, we would have to drop another 32 millibars to get to the lowest pressure reading ever recorded in a hurricane in the western hemisphere. That just draws a perspective of just how powerful this hurricane is.
