A little reminiscent of the Christmas Eve blizzard of 2009 that dropped 10" in Cooke County and a foot or more up towards OKC.

That was one heck of a winter storm as it dropped over a foot here in the Falls. Local mets are calling for potentially 4"-6" in the area.

Looks interesting even in eastern-plex as well. I am assuming the temperature profile of the atmosphere is going to be warmer so sleet instead of snow. According to the HRRR soundings for Ft Worth, it looks still more sleet profile at 15 hours, but still if it were a bit cooler in reality, it looks perfect for heavy snow.

yeah it just depends on where you are looking at, some areas are going to see mostly sleet, some snow, some freezing rain it just depends.
Going to be fun to watch the changeover for dfw area and how (and to what extent) the warm nose erodes.

imo and ice storm would be worse, either way also watch the borderline sfc temps on the eastplex

Ok now back to reality, the storm track is actually similar to that storm but it is not as deep a system or as wound up, maybe a baby version.

I loved the December 2009 Christmas Eve Blizzard. It didn't produce much snow in DFW, but it was so windy and the snow that did fall made it look very spacey (and radically reduced visibility). And since it was left over on Christmas day, it was technically a White Christmas, even through it was mostly melted by afternoon. Of course, we wouldn't know that the snow season was just beginning in 2010.

Very interesting to see where in North Texas/Southern OK the snow bullseye sets up, could be some significant snowfall, given the forecast thermal profiles (50-100 mb deep dendritic zone over the area in question), and the good lift/moisture (which has really been lacking prior to the pattern change a few days ago).

I definitely want to be more active in the forum and especially in the spring, maybe we can get more people on here during severe season as well. This is one of the best places to come to when looking for information on winter storms.

I hope the snow helps us out with our drought situation out here with Lake Bridgeport being 20+ feet down. Unlike a lot of the lakes in the DFW area all we have to replenish Lake Bridgeport is precipitation, so any and all precip is appreciated. Looks like we'll have a shot at some of the white stuff tomorrow, although I'm not sure how much there will be out here.

That would be nice if it played out similarly but I do tend to keep expectations tempered a bit when it comes to any weather in Texas! It is just a matter of playing the waiting game to find out how it all plays out.

I'll definitely be here during severe storm season. Thats my favorite kind of weather, as well as one of my favorite times of the year. :D

(Double oak is about 10-15 miles north of me.

Edit: weather bug says it is 38 degrees here too. Only 6 more degrees to go!

Yeah the models have been trending much drier with the late week system. I won't be happy if it's just cold and dry. I want some precip, any precip please!

Me too! That could be my last chance for my dream of 24 inches of snow this winter to come true.

Temps around here are sitting around 40 here in Lindale and the showers have been heavier than I expected. It will be interesting to watch the freezing line tomorrow to see if it can catch the back end of the precip here, it has 24 hours to drop 8 degrees.

do y'all not check the nws forecasts? they are calling for 1-3" atleast, on top of .20 of ice for your area.

someone earlier was worried about "light drizzle" for denton & I see people wondering if wf falls will get "anything".. this is what I meant by people being caught off guard.. not trying to be hostile just being thorough

For stuff freezing at the surface. Above your head it is 50+. This event will be column driven! Deformation band
