So If North Texas north of I-20 has enough moisture tomorrow we could have another round of winter weather? And does it look like the water on the streets will freeze or is there still enough time for it to evaporate?

To your 2nd question I would say there is not enough time for it to evaporate at this point. The sun angle is lowering. My temp has actually dropped a couple degrees.

Yes, it looks like locations north of I-20 will see very light snowfall tomorrow. The water that remains on the streets, and that hasn't evaporated, will refreeze if it hasn't already done so.

Euro and GFS indicate some very nice warm temperature anomalies spreading across the SW U.S. through Texas after the middle of next week. GFS has SE TX into the mid to upper 70s in the extended range, possibly even to 80.

Any indications that we might have to deal with freezing rain in SE Texas next week?

Melting has stopped and everything that was liquid an hour ago is already frozen or freezing.

Roads are already freezing over here. Does it look like we will have enough moisture left over tomorrow morning?

First time posting but long time lurker...

Received about 3/4" of fluffy snow here in Frisco. Very little melt if any occurred this afternoon. Roads between Plano and Frisco are mostly clear but do have some icy spots, especially at intersections.

Love the discussions folks!

Sometimes the patchy ice on the roads can be the most deadly situation. Hope people take extra precaution on the roads and not have a false sense of "its fine"...

It appears the low temp tonight is going to get lower then forecasted. Hourly forecast shows it sgould be 25 right now for north fort worth but it is only 21. 21 was suppose to be the overnight low around 2am. Will this lower temp cause us to not get above freezing tomorrow since high was only 34?

The Ukmet and JMA handled the situation this morning quite well for the past couple of days aside from the immediate short range guidance. JMA is very close to a major winter storm early next week (ukmet doesn't stretch that far on free site)

I would suspect with the waning cold air advection, unless clouds clear out, that the temps won't fall too much more than a few degrees overnight

DFW received .05" of liquid equivalent today which equated to around 1 inch of snow. 20 to 1 ratio? Impressive ratio

This is correct. The column was very efficient at making dendrites. Making the most out of very little qpf. The seasonal snow total (sleet and ice is counted as snow) is 4.1 inches.

With the dewpoint so low here, if we get precip at all, the temp will fall below freezing easily. Looks like im not sleeping tonight

Yep, this season is definitely making up for the last two lack luster ones.

Was anyone else questioning what the heck Steve McCauley posted earlier saying this was wet snow and that is reason for melting ??? This was extremely dry powdery 20-1 ratio snow and melted on streets quickly once solar radiation reached its peak this afternoon.....some of his posts are very puzzling!!

Also, Ntxw - checked out the new Euro weeklies yet ? has your - EPO back and in full effect towards end of Feb, early March , along with a possible - AO :)

Just so you know, it's really very, very easy to do it for yourself. Go to the Twister Data website, and click on the relevant model tab (GFS) at the top. Change the hours on the left side to your desired time (remember the times are in GMT, so subtract 6 to get CST), and then click on the displayed map to get your Skew-T.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Cameron

I was wondering the same thing. It was very powdery. The bigger snowflakes came at the end when the dry part of the column was overcame and it was fully saturated top to bottom (IMO). There are hints that -NAO (a real one not some pseudo higher heights) may actually help with digging more shortwaves and keeping them stuck.

Biggest wet flakes I ever saw was with snowmaggedon when it came down in chunks, that's not powdery!
