nws fort worth fd...
OUR NEXT SHORTWAVE WILL NOT EXPERIENCE THE SHEARING THE THURSDAY SYSTEM UNDERWENT. IN ADDITION...THE LOWEST SEVERAL THOUSAND FEET OF THE ATMOSPHERE ARE NEARLY SATURATED AND WILL REMAIN SO TODAY...MEANING LITTLE IF ANY PRECIPITATION WILL BE LOST TO SUBLIMATION.

INSTEAD OF LIFTING A THERMODYNAMICALLY STABLE LAYER IN THE MID-LEVELS...LAPSE RATES WITHIN THE DENDRITIC GROWTH ZONE WILL BE STEEPER. THIS INSTABILITY WILL ENHANCE ANY AREAS OF CSI...WHICH WILL BE FOCUSED NEAR THE THETA-E GRADIENT INVOF 500-600MB. THERE IS STILL EXCELLENT AGREEMENT AMONG GUIDANCE WITH THE PLACEMENT OF THIS AREA OF FORCING...PUTTING IT BETWEEN THE I-20 CORRIDOR AND THE RED RIVER.

850MB INFLOW WILL BE STRONGER (AND MUCH MORE MOIST AS WELL). THIS WARM/MOIST UPGLIDE WILL ENHANCE THE INSTABILITY ABOVE IT...

I'm still in disbelief that Rockwall ISD called off today at 6PM last night. That's unprecedented in my eight years here. Even in 2011, you had to check very late at night or at 6 the next morning every day. They ended up cancelling every day that week, but it was hard on parents trying to make plans. I'm sure most of the side roads are in terrible shape this morning, so they made the right call and at the right time.

06Z GFS. The FWD AFD basically left out everything and focused on today. However the forecast is for a wintry mix Monday night - Tuesday night. I'm not sold on it yet.

They did make the right call, my parents are wondering why our district didn't cancel because they have schools opening right when the wintery weather is supposed to start.

Last Part of this mornings AFD NWS FTW

THE ONGOING PRECIPITATION ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS IS ASSOCIATED
WITH ISENTROPIC LIFT AROUND 850MB...WHERE TEMPERATURES ARE SEVERAL
DEGREES BELOW FREEZING. THIS LIGHT SNOW IS UNLIKELY TO ACCUMULATE.
THE SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL WILL BEGIN IN NORTHWESTERN ZONES THIS
MORNING AND SHIFT EAST ACROSS THE REGION TODAY. DALLAS/FORT WORTH
WILL LIKELY BE NEAR THE SOUTHERN FRINGE OF THE SNOW BANDING.
BEING WITHIN THE TRANSITION ZONE BETWEEN ADVISORY-WORTHY SNOW TO
THE NORTH AND FLURRIES (OR NO SNOW) TO THE SOUTH...LOCATIONS
WITHIN THE METROPLEX COULD SEE ANYWHERE FROM FROM ZERO SNOWFALL
(SOUTH) TO 1/2 INCH (NORTH)

Much like yesterday most of the snow and any real accumulation will be north of I-20. We closed yesterday at noon here in DTN FTW since the snow was heavy and side streets was a mess, however as I got not even 5 min south the roads and 287 was clear and I cruised my normal 70 the rest of the way home...lol

From the Facebook pages of:

Steve McCauley

Our next round of snow is moving from southwest to northeast across the area with additional light accumulations (less than one inch) for Dallas/Tarrant Counties. We could see one to two inches from NW Collin and N Denton Counties and for locations north and west from there with isolated 3 inch amounts in NW sections of north Texas between Cooke and Jack Counties.

US National Weather Service Fort Worth Texas

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 9 am to 6 pm for areas along and north of a line from Graham to Denton to Sulphur Springs. Snowfall amounts will generally be 1/2 to 1 inch today, which will result in impacts to travel.

A Winter Weather Advisory is also in effect from 6 am to noon in areas along and south of a line from Lampasas and Waco to Corsicana and Canton. A wintry mix of freezing rain and drizzle with snow may result in some light ice accumulations on roadways. The precipitation will transition to a rain/snow mix this afternoon.

Elsewhere, light snow could accumulate up to 1/2 inch. Regardless of additional snowfall, some icy patches will linger, particularly along the I-20 corridor.

Radar is lighting up between Abilene and Wichita Falls, with the track toward the ENE.

Very impressive returns in SE New Mexico. System seems to have more "oomph" than Thursday.

Just another disappointing day here. It's really dry. No reports of freezing anything in the metro area.

There are radar returns to our north and to our south but we seem to be in a dry slot.

Seems to be more radar returns out over the hill country and EWX has several local storm reports of freezing drizzle out there. It is moving our way but the question is will it be enough to overcome our dry air. My dewpoint is sitting at 19.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'll tell you what, if nothing ends up happening ... this will go down as one of the most colossal weather forecast busts in Austin history. I know some around here (Storm 2k) were calling "bust" in Houston but at least in that event, SOMETHING happened. Here in Austin we have pretty much every ISD shut down and local/state government half daying it ... that's a lot of inactivity. This would be a huge bust. Someone better hope that freezing drizzle starts falling soon or there will be some 'splaining to do!
