The 00z RAP continues its trend, it shows a light band of preciptation forming over the metroplex by 7am. This band then merges with a band of preciptation moving north from central texas over the metroplex between 10 and 11 producing moderate precip until at least noon when the model run ends.

Keep in mind this is just what one model shows and is by no means an official forecast for DFW.

Actually two models, the other being one of the most respected models in the Met Community, The Euro. Which by ignoring this model, some on here believe is on the verge being irresponsible.

Hi Orangeblood,

I don't have access to the Euro data. Is it showing something very similar to what the RAP is showing for DFW tomorrow morning? What time does it show the precip starting? I am very concerned by the RAP showing precip starting across the area around 7am which would be well after the time that most businesses and schools make their decision to delay or close for the day.

The traffic accidents are starting to pill up all around DFW. "Traffic Advisory (Ft Worth) Multiple accidents are being reported including rollover accidents along both east and west bound Northeast Loop 820 between Interstate 35 and Main Street as well as accidents along Alliance Gateway Freeway around Alta Vista Road due to ice on the roadways. Use caution if you must be on the roadways this evening. "

DFW had it's 46th freeze today. Tied with the most the last 2 decades beating 09/10, 2 shy of cracking top 10 for good. 1987-88/1904-1905/1966-1967 is the next milestone at 48 which looks like it will get.

It shows very similar model output with axis of heaviest precip going directly through the Metroplex starting around 8-9am tomorrow morning lasting through early afternoon....anywhere from 0.20-0.30 inch QPF over a wide swatch from west of Mineral Wells over to North of Tyler. With temps sitting in the upper 20's, it's mind boggling that they haven't even mentioned this scenario in their discussion this afternoon.

I hope schools and businesses look into what is already happening right now, because if we get as much precip as the RAP suggest than the roads are going to be a nightmare tomorrow.

Add Virginia between 75 and Hardin to the wreck list. There is a very small bridge I had to cross, and the west-bound lane was completely shut down. Looked to be at least 3 cars involved and facing all different directions. Took it slow and I was fine, but it's going to be super nasty quickly. And that is a heavily traveled road.

I just drove from my campus (ACC Northridge) home and so far the temps have been holding just above freezing with only scattered light drizzle here and there. I'm not sure if anything will happen in the Austin area but I guess only time will tell. Temp actually went up here at home to 35 degrees.

Went to take my dog out at the apartments right next to the hulen bridge south of I 30 where the railroad system crosses. Just witnessed a 15 car pile up with one serious injury scary moment. Did my best to help before the firefighters were able to take over the situation. Prayers go out to those injured. Be safe out there everyone.

There's actually some model guidance which suggests temps may rise a degree or two.

Per the LCRA hydromet site temps are at or below freezing in the northwestern 1/4 of Travis County. Will be interesting to see if we can get most of the metro area in the same. I still have my doubts.

And to top it all off, the "freezing rain advisory" isn't scheduled to start until midnight tonight. With all of the accidents piling up, what am I missing here ? Who is leading the charge in the Fort Worth office at this time ?

They're hashing it out now. Look for some new warnings/forecasts shortly to be hoisted for much of NWSFO Dallas/Fort Worth CWA.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice that. When it was issued at 2:30 this afternoon most of Tarrant county had already been below freezing the majority of the day, with some areas already in the 20s, with freezing drizzle. When I read that the advisory didn't go into effect until midnight I could only shake my head and think what the heck? I hope the public is being careful out there on the roads despite the lack of warning about the current situation

Reports of a fireman working a wreck on 408 bridge knocked over railing to I-20 below.

The firefighter fell of a bridge near I-20 at Spur 408 in southwest Dallas, according to initial reports. The firefighter's condition is unknown as this time.

The ice cleared up today but has reformed from the freezing drizzle. Roads are very slick in the Wichita Falls area again. Schools will most likely be out again tomorrow.

Temp just fell to 32 here and so is the dewpoint so the air is saturated but just went outside and only a fine mist falling. No ice yet. My grill on the patio has only water and it is usually the first thing to freeze.

Yeah, keep in mind that unlike the last two events we are not dealing with much dry air. As you accurately noted, most of the air column above us is saturated. So there won't be much evaporative cooling. I just don't see how temps will get too much lower. I think outside of the AUS metro area they might see some icy patches on elevated roads/bridges but nothing in town. Just my amateur view.

This is the message on the Pflugerville ISD website tonight: The Central Texas area is anticipating winter weather, possibly including sleet, snow and ice, on Tuesday. Pflugerville ISD is monitoring the weather to determine if any changes will need to be made to the school day on Tuesday. Please continue to check the district’s website for updated information.

Strange, here at my house the temp is down to 29, but the pavements and the cars are wet...no icing yet.
