Mike if you get a chance look at the 1947 hurricane that hit S.Fl. I was reading photocopies I made years ago out of the newspaper and its amazing to read now and how they even then mentioned it would be steered away to the North by a front and hit N.C. After moving wnw/nw and giving the all clear to people in south florida the system stalled east of Eleuthra in the bahamas for 24 hours than very slowly moved west and eventually hit south Fl. Awesome article...

Believe it or not everyone... There have been two analog years being thrown into the mix. 1960 was one of those, and 1947. Remember the earlier this year heat wave that gripped the UK and EUROPE? This year's European heat wave was the most severe since 1947.

1960, of course, had Donna.
1947 had this long track system and the only one that ever crossed into the Gulf when it became a hurricane so far east.

But, here's the major difference.

Both 1947 and 1960 had only ONE lone CV storm, and BOTH hit Florida as Category 4 storms.
