Did anyone else have a temperature bust on the low side today? Today was forecast to be 60 and it's only 50 at 4pm. I noticed a couple of days ago tomorrow in DFW was forecast at 74 and Saturday at 68 and now it's 64 and 57.

I've been lurking on here for two seasons now and have learned a lot from everyone. It's been a fascinating winter even though I actually don't like cold weather! (Ok, one big snow a year would be perfect.)

Since the season is winding down and there is no winter weather right now, I have a question about Texas winter weather past to propose. I figured y'all would have some ideas or could conjecture.

How cold did it get in Texas during the height of the last ice age when ice sheets extended down to the Ohio Valley? I know it was much drier back then so maybe not so much snow opportunity. But how cold are we talking? -20F, -30F, or more? How about Houston and Galveston? They weren't even on the coast back then!

Also, how warm did it get in summer? Was it 70s or did we still get 90s and 100s?

I'd love to know everyone's thoughts.

Just to keep it current - I had to drive to Louisiana from Dallas yesterday and there was still quite a bit of sleet coverage around Tyler in shady areas. Hard to believe. It was all gone this afternoon when I drove back.

Encouraging rain chances for this weekend for central and south Texas. I think South Texas Storms is going to like this graphic!

I do really like that graphic Porta and I hope it verifies! SA would receive more than double the amount of rain they have gotten all year with this weekend's event if it did.

Porta, thanks for this wonderful page on this wonderful site. I know im not a Texan, but info here is tremendous. I have one concern, either A) I move to Texas or, B) We merge Louisiana into the Texas winter page

00Z Euro is still pushing a moderate cold front through TX/LA next Wednesday. Lows down to the mid 30s in NE TX and near 40 in Houston. I may still need to run my AC with those temps...

Thank YOU for being here! Very happy to hear that this forum has been beneficial to you. We (Texas and Louisiana) have had quite a winter, right?!

There are many times when winter systems impact both of our states and your suggestion is one worthy of further consideration.

:uarrow: That's not cold enough, we need to drop that another 20 degrees. I need it to be in the mid teens, not 30s.

System next Wednesday is going to be pretty progressive. It is not going to hang around like this last one did.

The latest 5-day QPF map from NWS' Weather Prediction Center national desk is encouraging for us in south central Texas. Looks like it ramps up our rain totals another .25" or more from yesterday's map.

30 day SOI is now modestly negative like it was last fall. Persistent moisture (mid and high) will continue to stream up from the Pacific. Daily's have gone into the gutter. Bright, sunny days will be a rarity the next couple of weeks and the tropical Pacific controls much of the weather. Below normal remains intact. Maybe we can change it colder for wxman57's enjoyment! 40 for high instead of low in his neck of the woods.

Is this a precursor of things to come the rest of this year?

Thinking of going to the beach for spring break? Bring your wetsuit. Coastal water temperatures from Texas to the Florida Panhandle are colder than they've been in 20 years. I keep a close watch on Galveston water temperatures. Current SSTs are in the 52-53 range. Average from 2005-2013 was about 61F for March 7th. Typically, water temperatures are rising quickly by March. Not so this year. I think I'll go jump into the Gulf to cool down after today's high way up into the 60s.

Here's a graphic from the Houston/Galveston NWS website:

Here's a 60hr precip graphic from the 12Z GFS valid next Wednesday morning. It shows only about 0.25" of precip along the Texas coast prior to Wednesday morning. Nothing after Wednesday. The precip occurs on Tuesday ahead of the cold front. That's not too much.

NWS FW- ANOTHER LARGE TROUGH WILL DROP INTO THE WESTERN CONUS MONDAY AND
APPROACH THE PLAINS ON TUESDAY. THIS FRONT WILL SEND ANOTHER
COLD FRONT SOUTH INTO NORTH TEXAS WEDNESDAY...BUT UNFORTUNATELY...
MOISTURE WILL REMAIN LIMITED AND A DRY FORECAST CONTINUES.

 this seems to be a broken record around DFW. Any signs of some decent rain events for for NTX

How come this is so much different from what Porta posted earlier from the NWS' Weather Prediction Center? Are they not buying the GFS?
