Re: Florida Weather
Tornado watch for my area was a big bust, it never got juicy for the storms to form in this area, and the ones that moved in from the gulf died out as soon it came across a more stable air.
At least we got some light rain showers out of this, everything is so green due to a wet and warm winter over all.

Re: Florida Weather
Got real nasty here. Id say 50-60 mph winds. Tore large branches down and sent all the trash cans flying down the street. Even blew a few of the neighbors mailboxes over. Power also went out and has yet to come on...2 hours and counting.

Yea, winds were probably in the 45 mph range here. More than Isaac and Bonnie.

Id say closer to 60mph at least in my area. We were out of power for almost 5 hours. Driving to work this morning I passed several trees uprooted and very large tree limbs were littering the sidewalks. If you look at the storm reports from yesterday most of the mesonet readings around my area were in the 60mph range.

TS Bonnie was just downright pathetic compared to this. All Bonnie did was cause a breezy/overcast day.

Re: Florida Weather
I knew here in Hollywood there would not be much because of the sea breeze. We got more rain the day before from an isolated thunderstorm then the prefront line. Whatever. it was a little fun. As for next week. I think the GFS will win out because climo and predictors like ao/nao and pna don't point to a strong front. Could be wrong but usually the GFS wins on this:
European model (ecmwf) deepens this trough, driving a strong cold front across South Florida Thursday with significant cooling for middle March. However, the GFS is not nearly as pronounced and further north with this trough, with zonal flow locally keeping conditions warm. Made no changes to the extended forecast given the very high uncertainties.

Re: Florida Weather
There was another earthquake in northern Cuba this morning. The third one this year. A bunch of people here in the Keys felt it. Funny how we're getting earthquakes but we haven't had a hurricane in nine years.

Re: Florida Weather
Well might not be a strong front but atleast cooler end of week.
Cooler and drier air will move into South Florida behind the cold front for the latter part of the week with dry weather expected then.

Looks like we have one last gasp of Old Man Winter coming in for the next 36 hours. Cold front will move across the northern peninsula late tonight. High temps tomorrow only in the upper 50s here and Friday morning low temps may approach near the freezing mark across the mormally, colder interior locales.
Temps rebound quickly this weekend and we will be approaching 80 degrees by Sunday. Rain returns back in the forecast by Tuesday as another shortwave approaches the Southeast U.S. region.

Bottomed out at 34.3 degrees about an our ago. There was scattered frost at my loc*le this morning. Just missed the freezing mark, but there were areas to the west and northwest of me that did reach the freeze mark..
Nice weather on tap the next couple of days and temps will moderate well into the 70s this weekend. However, rain moves back in the region by Monday morning.

Re: Florida Weather
LONG TERM...
THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IN THE GULF OF MEXICO LATE THIS WEEKEND
WILL THEN DEEPEN AND MOVE EAST ACROSS NORTH FLORIDA EARLY NEXT
WEEK PUSHING A STRONG COLD FRONT ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA SOMETIME
MONDAY AFTERNOON OR MONDAY NIGHT. AHEAD OF THE FRONT...THE WINDS
WILL BECOME SOUTHWEST AND INCREASE TO AT LEAST BREEZY OR EVEN
WINDY CONDITIONS. THESE STRONG WINDS WILL ALLOW FOR DEEP TROPICAL
MOISTURE TO WORK INTO THE AREA FROM THE SOUTHERN GULF OF MEXICO
LEADING TO SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY BY MONDAY AFTERNOON
INTO MONDAY NIGHT.
THE LATEST LONG RANGE MODELS ARE ALSO SHOWING A 100 TO 130 KNOT
UPPER LEVEL JET MOVING THROUGH THE FLORIDA PENINSULA ALONG WITH A
50 KNOT LOW LEVEL JET MOVING THROUGH THE AREA AT THE SAME TIME THE
STRONG COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH. THIS PATTERN WILL ALLOW FOR SOME
OF THE STORMS TO BECOME STRONG TO EVEN SEVERE OVER SOUTH FLORIDA
FOR MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT. SO WILL MENTION THIS IN THE EXTENDED
PORTION OF THE HWO PACKAGE FOR MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT.

Re: Florida Weather
Read that to alexis. Never get much action near the coast. Guess it matters where the sea breeze sets up. Could get severe out west and north of me. Have to see what model runs say by sunday.
