RIP Johnny Cash and John Ritter

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Fri Sep 12, 2003 6:09 am

I wasn't a big fan of country music until later in my life and even then, I wasn't really big on Johnny Cash, but I'm sure a lot of people will be mourning his passing.

I was a fan of John Ritter and loved his ability to do bumbling, stumbling physical comedy. He'll be missed.

Although I do enjoy much of what country has to offer, Johnny Cash was never my reason for that. Still, his impact on bringing country to a more mainstream audience is almost unparalleled. He made a wonderful contribution.

Same goes for John Ritter. A lot of my own time committed to watching him, especially Three's Company.

Both of these people brought good things to the people who enjoyed them. They will be missed.

It's yet another sad day, our generation is loosing so many good performers. I too, like you, really didn't care for Johnny Cash that much BUT.....

As for John Ritter, as it's been said, he was a great comic....

Guess I know what show on ABC is gonna be cancelled unless they find another cast member that looks like John Ritter.

Yes, it is a shame to lose good performers like Johnny Cash and John Ritter. They will be missed. :(

I'm more of a "New" Country music fan, but the fact remains that JC is a Legend. I thought his recent "Give my love to Rose", was a powerful song and video.

From what one of my friends told me, Johnny Cash had like over 200 cars/trucks and a house as big as a high school, I don't know if it's true or not.

It seems unlikely that the show would continue and yet "Cheers" replaced Coach with Woody and "Gimme A Break" lost Dolph Sweet and they continued. Of course, John's character "Paul Hennessy" was the main character, so I don't know how they'd work around that. It wouldn't be the same without him and his comic abilities.

RIP Johnny & John!

I figured that after June Carter Cash passed away, it would be only a matter of time before Johnny would go too.

John Ritter is a shock to me, as it was for everyone else. So young too!

I couldn't believe it either! I guess it reaffirms that it can happen to anyone!

R.I.P. Johnny Cash and John Ritter!

I couldn't believe it this morning when it saw the passings on the news. Both are legendary in their own line of work and will sadly be missed by everyone in the entertainment industry.

A very sad day in my home...I was a fan of both gentlemen. I wasn't surprised at news of Johnny Cash passing away, but the news about John Ritter totally stunned me....he just didn't seem old enough to die (but neither did Michael Landon

I too was so shocked that John Ritter died. I first saw the news scroll across CNN early Friday morning and thought for certain I had read that wrong. But no indeed, I didn't. I immediately went to CNN online to confirm the sad, sad news. He was way too young to die!!! Way too young..... I am to be flat-out honest, still in shock today. It is so sad he left behind a 5 year old daughter and 3 grown children from his first marriage. His wife is from Cincinnati and this past year there would be accounts in local papers of how the entire family would be in town visiting her relatives. They'd be seen at the Children's Museum or a Reds game. John was always gracious and kind to strangers who timidly would ask - are you really John Ritter? He would confirm he was and apparently warmly offered autographs. But what most local people would say was he was down to earth and didn't want all the fanfare that went with celebrity status. He is truly one of those entertainers that I've never heard a bit of negative news about. RIP John.....

And now onto Johnny Cash. That was indeed such sad news. I'm not a country music fan but he transended musical genre's so even I liked his style/music. He was so devastated after his wife died that you grieved with him, back in May. His family will be in my prayers. As will the Ritter family.

Such a sad day all around. And to also realize John Ritter passed away on 9/11 too was very sad too.

______________
PS - quick edit - just read that 9/11 was John Ritter's daughter's birthday. Now I'm even sadder, if that's possible.

And yesterday (9/12) was the birthday of his wife, actress Amy Yasbeck.
