This is getting really bad for the Austin area. It does not look like there is much in the way of relief over the next week. Like Friday, maybe the northern half of the metro might get a little something, but we did not see a drop south of the river.

Any chance the chilly forecast for the DFW area for Sat-Sun busts?? I've seen temps change drastically with a 7 day forecast, or do ya'll think it's set in stone because it's cool temps forecasted vs warm?

I wouldn't say the weekend temps are set in stone, and caveat that of course the forecasted temps could change as the week progresses. But it's my opinion that you can probably plan on the temps being very close to what the DFW NWS is forecasting. We aren't dealing with an arctic air mass which can cause temp forecasts to bust.

Again, just my opinion as a engineer with no meteorological training. :)

Texas storm chasers had a map that had some pretty high cape values for parts of North Texas on Thursday.

The darker shade is close to 4000 and the lighter orange is 3000-3500. The yellow is 2500-3000.

I'm not sold yet on severe weather outbreak this week. CIN (better known as the cap) seems a little strong for numerous initiation. Arklatex vicinity looks better and definitely Louisiana and Arkansas. The bigger story will be later in the week with a slow moving rainmaker. 1-3 inches of rain is possible for Northern, Central, SE Texas. Don't think it will be a big severe weather maker either, associated with low heights and anomalous cooler air. Of course in time for final four weekend at Jerryworld.

So it's April. What does mother nature do? She reloads cold air in North America! While the rest of the world is spring and even summer our beloved continent is STILL locked in anomalous cold. In fact the models rebuild more cold in Central Canada! Why? The warm pool is still there...doing work. Of course anomalous now don't have the equivalent they did some weeks ago but still impressive nonetheless. CFSv2 run in it's entirety keeps Texas below average for the month. That would make it 6 consecutive months for the 3 big metros in Texas. Incredible given we haven't seen something like that long for below average post 2000.

Just look at this, Asia and Europe. North America still resembles December! Just incredible

:uarrow: That cold air has gotta go! That's probably why heavy rain continues to stay away from Texas. The 0z models are less bullish on this weekend's rain event. Man it's been way too long since we've had a widespread heavy rain event. I really miss it.

Indeed they are. Probably because they are shifting away from thunderstorms and clusters instead to damp, chilly light rain because of lower heights.

Yeah and it's because of that darn cold air that just won't stay away! Do you still think heavier rain will return towards the end of this month?

Finally! The 12Z GFS and Euro are coming in much warmer starting next Sunday for Texas. I may need to revise my prediction of no 90s until May...

Quite the heat wave coming for spring! Spring cancel to summer. Bring out those sandals and sunglasses or wither away into seclusion.

Would like some of that heat here in San Diego. Was in the 50s with rain this morning but the sun's out now. Have the heater on in my room. Muscles are sore today from about a 1000 ft 1.5 mile vertical hike up to an Alberton's yesterday to get some supplies for the week. Might have to take the trip up the mountain again. Next time I'm taking 2 Sherpas and some oxygen.

Saw HURAKAN's presentation in the session on reanalysis of past storms this morning.
