Re: SPAC: ITA - Tropical Cyclone
From Explosive Intensification to Rapid Weakening, due to land interaction. Glad it rapidly weakened as a tropical storm, but the problem now is the heavy rainfall and the post-cyclone damages.

The BBC are having their usall "Its not here, we do not care" attitude about this. I have seen not one report on Ita making landfall and causing damage. I bet if Ita made landfall in the US it would dominate the news for weeks.
Rant over. Ita will probably slowly die over the cold water now.

Well, BBC had decent coverage during typhoon Haiyan. I wonder why not now?
Back to the topic, Ita's core is currently disintegrating and is unofficially barely at TS status by the JTWC, and at category 1 status by the official agency of Australia, BOM.
I hope Queensland did not get the worst of this storm.

Quite a bit of damage as you would expect but the most important thing no fatalities reported.
GFS simulator developing upto another 3 cyclones 2 quite intense one's 1 in the Solomon Islands not good they really suffered with ITA and 1 in the Australian region around the 25th this month. Odd because its late in the season.

Had Ita made landfall in central Philippines, it would have killed at least 1,000 people and would result in very significant damages amd devastation The closest intensity storm to make landfall in the Philippines in terms of 1 min unofficial is Durian in 2006, at 250 km/hr. I could not compare it to JMA's 10-minute scale because it is screwed.

The Australian Government did excellent preparations for such a monster cyclone.
